Antonín Holý: Pioneer Chemist in Antiviral Medicine and Naturalism

Antonín Holý, born on September 1, 1936, in Prague, was a renowned Czech chemist and naturalist who contributed significantly to the field of antiviral medication, notably in the treatment of HIV/AIDS. He studied organic chemistry at Charles University and worked at the Institute for Organic Chemistry and Biochemistry. Holý invented several vital medications, including Viread and Truvada. He received numerous accolades for his contributions to science, becoming a member of the European Academy of Arts and Sciences, and earning the State Award for Chemistry in 1984.

  2. Basic information • Antonín Holý was born on 1st September 1936 in Prague. • He died on 16th July 2012. • He was a Czech chemist and one of the most popular naturalists. • Antonín Holý discovered the antiviral in the treatment of HIV and AIDS.

Thescientificcareer • He studied the organic chemistry at Charles university from 1954 to 1959 in Prague. • He was the scientific aspirant of Istitute for organic chemistry and biochemistry from 1960-1963 in Prague. • He became the leading scientific worker in 1967. • Antonín Holý was at the forefront of group of nucleic acids in 1987.
