  1. POM - 3 Predicting Density What makes things float and sink? Coke Can Demonstration - (make predictions, observations and your own explanations). PS - How can the density be used to predict whether something will float or sink (buoyancy)? Hyp - If an object’s density is higher then (your prediction) because (your reason). Variables - (Identify the MV and RV)

  2. Floating and Sinking Test (Place Table 1 in your journal.) (Copy the densities of the 7 objects from your data in POM-2.) (Test our hypothesis by put each object in water.)

  3. Procedures Read p 26 steps 4-15 then summarize these steps into your journal. Remember procedures need to: • Be written in steps that are clear and detailed enough for someone else to do the investigation without you. • Remind us to record your measurements • Include repeated trials (at least 3 times) or in this case comply our class data and take an average.

  4. Procedures • Measure 25 ml of vegetable oil and measure the mass. Calculate the density. Record density. • Repeat #1 with corn syrup. • Pour vegetable oil and 25 ml of water into the corn syrup cylinder. • Drop copper cylinder then the nylon spacer into the column. • Clean - pour the liquids into the waste container.;

  5. Conclusion • Answer the problem statement. • Support this specific data (number and observations) • Explain how your data supports your conclusion.
