  6. JANUS MT 2 crossed muting beams Mechanical guards S1 S2 STOP DANGEROUS AREA Mechanical guards MUTING • The muting function can be activated only if two muting sensors are activated at the same time t2(s2) – t1(S1) = max. 4 seconds • An opaque cylindrical object D ≤ 500 mm (= a person) must not be able to initiate the muting function (IEC TS 62046). • The cylindrical test object is detected by the light curtain before it activates the muting sensors. • The cylindrical test object activates a muting sensor and interrupts a beam of the light curtain before activating the second muting sensor. The muting function is not activated and the safety outputs of the light curtain are brought to the off-state. ON OFF OSSD

  9. JANUS MT_S4 4 parallel muting beams Mechanical guards S1 S2 S3 S4 STOP DANGEROUS AREA MUTING Mechanical guards ON OFF • The length of the pallet is less than the distance between S1-S4 • The muting sequence is wrong (the system is not in position to • distinguish the material from the operator) • The safety light grid sends an emergency stop command to the • machine OSSD ReeR SpA JANUS 07/2005

  10. JANUS MT_S4 4 parallel muting beams Mechanical Guards S1 S2 S3 S4 STOP DANGEROUS AREA MUTING Mechanical Guards ON OFF OSSD • For a short period, the 4 beams must all be interrupted (transfer of the muting function from s1-s2 to s3-s4). • An opaque cylindrical object D ≤ 500 mm (= a person) must not activate the muting function (IEC TS 62046). • The muting function is not activated and the safety outputs of the light curtain are brought to the off-state.

  11. JANUS MT 2 crossed muting beams Mechanical guards S1 S2 STOP DANGEROUS AREA MUTING Mechanical guards ON OFF • On the pallet there are transparent objects: empty glass bottles • without labels • Due to the inclination of the muting beams only 1 or 2 bottles • intercept the beams first • The muting beams could pass through the glass and the detection • is difficult and unstable • The muting sequence is wrong • The safety light grid sends an emergency stop command to the • machine OSSD ReeR SpA JANUS 09/2005

  12. JANUS MT_S4 4 parallel muting beams Mechanical guards S1 S2 S3 S4 DANGEROUS AREA MUTING Mechanical guards ON OFF • The muting sensors of Janus MT_S4 are specially designed for • transparent objects • With parallel muting beams a row of bottles intercepts the beams • and the detection is easier and stable • The muting sequence is correct • The pallet can pass through the safety light grid OSSD ReeR SpA JANUS 07/2005

  17. IEC TS 62046 application and integration of safety electrosensitive devices for body detection Muting function for palletizer protection

  18. 2 muting sensors – crossed beams with concurrent checking • The crossing point of the two light beams S1 and S2 shall be located behind the • sensing field of the ESPE in direction of the hazardous zone. • t2(s2) – t1(S1) = 4 sec. max IEC TS 62046

  19. 2 muting sensors – crossed beams with concurrent checking • Due to an incorrect positioning muting beams S1 and S2 the pallet keeps the • safety light grid in Muting condition for a long time. • If larger than 200 mm it could create a space sufficient to enter in the • dangerous area IEC TS 62046

  20. 2 muting sensors – crossed beams with concurrent checking • An object with a diameter of 500 mm must not be able to start the muting function. • That gives assurance of a correct distinction between the material and a person. IEC TS 62046

  21. 2 muting sensors – crossed beams with concurrent checking • The crossing point of the two sensor beams should be positioned at the same level • as, or higher than, the lowest beam of the safety barrier in order to avoid easy • manipulation of the system and unintentional activation of the muting function. IEC TS 62046

  22. 4 muting sensor with parallel muting beams with entry / exit palletsequence timing control ( “T” sensor position) • The muting sensors shall be installed so close to the safety barrier so that it is • difficult to enter the danger zone without being detected by preceding or following • immediately the pallet or the transport system (d1 e d3 < 200 mm). • The distance between any 2 muting sensors shall be sufficient so that they cannot be • actuated simultaneously by a persons leg (d2 > 250 mm). • All the 4 sensors must to be simultaneously intercepted for at least a small period of • time. IEC TS 62046

  23. 4 muting sensors with parallel muting beams with entry / exit palletsequence timing control ( “T” sensor position) • An opaque cylindrical object with a diameter of 500 must not be able to activate the muting function. IEC TS 62046

  24. JANUS SAFETY DISTANCE

  25. JANUS ML / MT • THE REASONS FOR SUCCESS • Safety and Responsibility • Thanks to: • Built-in Muting Photocells with crossed or parallel beams always correctly positioned and in compliance • Safety requirements (IEC TS 62046) met in order to recognize the material and distinguish between an object and a person. • Built-in Muting Photocells protect against the end-user • manipulating the position of the beams which could lead to a dangerous condition. • Reduces risk for the Machine Manufacturer and the End User and meets safety requirements.

  26. JANUS ML / MT THE REASONS FOR SUCCESS Safety and Responsibility With the ML / ML TRX and MT / MT TRX models, compliance with the safety requirements -IEC TS 62046- regarding the geometry of the muting sensors and all the other safety parameters is automatically guaranteed with built in sensors.
