  2. PERKS History • Pesticide Education Recordkeeping System • Keeps track of credits within your county • Send in your list of applicators at the end of the 5 year cycle

  3. RESULTS OF PERKS • Rough Past with some • Some don’t understand how to use PERKS effectively • Some have older versions that may be out of date • Some will not use • Most rank PERKS as Good & useful • Use with no problems • Most responded positively to PERKS

PERKS Benefits #1 An efficient way to track your applicators credits #2 Much more efficient at adding credits for you (Helps answer applicator requests faster) #3 Prints out mailing labels if needed easily #4 Prints out credit listing for your county which may be mailed or sent as an attachment to MSU. Much more efficient than excel

  5. PERKS Drawbacks • There is a learning curve • Old versions may become incompatible with new operating systems • Not straightforward in how / when to delete applicators and programs in new certification cycles • Only tracks your individual county

  6. New things for January 2007 • All applicator lists for programs need to be sent to MSU Pesticide Office within 14 days of program • Serves as a backup • New extension agents • Lost files

  7. PERKS Version 6.0 • Addresses some problems including: • Instructions on how to delete programs or applicators at the end of a cycle. • How to get around an office 2007 compatibility problem • How to easily send applicator lists for programs to MSU

  8. Do you need PERKS version 6.0 • Maybe not? • Are you running your current program without any problems? • Do you have a way to send applicator lists to MSU? • Do you have version 4 or better?

  11. 1st Question • Which operating system do you have • VISTA • Windows 97 2003

  12. Using PERKS with Vista and MS Access 2007 • Trusted Locations in Vista • Updating PERKS in MS Access 2007 • MS Access 2007 Tools

  13. Trusted Locations in Vista If the Vista operating system is used on a computer, PERKS must be saved in a Trusted Location on that computer. If it is not, PERKS will not work because the database has unsigned macros. Documents in Trusted Locations are allowed to run their macros without being checked by the Trust Center security system which blocks the macros.

  14. 1. In MS Access 2007 click the Microsoft Office Button in the upper left-hand corner. 2.  Click Access Options

  15. 3.  Click Trust Center • 4.  Click Trust Center Settings

  16. 5. Click on Trusted Location: 6. Click on Add new location:

  17. Browse for the folder to add as a Trusted Location • Click OK

  18. 7.   Finally save the database (file extension is .accdb) into your Trusted Location: • Click the Microsoft Office Button • Click Save As • Select  Access 2007 Database • Select the folder you defined as a Trusted Location • click Save

  19. Updating PERKS in MS Access 2007 • 1. Download the database to the • Trusted Location on your computer • 2. In your old database pen the • Applicator, Credit, and Program • tables found in the left navigation • window under the Tables section.

  20. 3. For each table, export the content: • Click on External Data tab • Go to the Export section and click on Excel • Select a directory on your hard drive to save the exported file • Select your version of Excel and name the file the same as the table names (Applicator, Credits, or Program)

  21. 4. Open PERKSv6.accdb that you downloaded into your Trusted Location • 5. For each table, import the content you just • exported: • Click on External Data tab • Go to the Import section and click on Excel • IMPORT the Credits.xlsx file LAST!

  22. Select the directory on your hard drive you saved the exported file • Select the Append a copy of the record to the • table: • Applicator table for the applicator.xlsx file • Program table for program.xlsx file you recently exported • Credits table for the credits.xlsx file

  23. Follow the prompts: • Show worksheets • click Next • click Next • click Finish. • Click OK 6. After the import process open the Applicator, Credits, and Program tables in version 6 to make sure the data was successfully imported.

  25. In a nutshell • We need applicator list’s for each program or credit will not be authorized at end of cycle • Send applicator lists as an attachment to pesticide office • Delete programs and applicators from previous certification cycles. • Make a backup • Going interactive 2010
