  1. Homework – Worksheet Do Now 5/20/14 Write a ratio of the probability of the event happening to the total possible outcomes. EX: rolling a 5 on a die 1:6 • A number cube is rolled, it lands on a multiple of 2. • A letter is randomly chosen from the word “mirror” and you choose an “r”. • A bag contains 4 blue marbles, 3 yellow marbles, and 6 green marbles. You pick a blue marble out of the bag. • A standard deck of playing cards contains 52 cards. There are 13 cards of each suit. You draw a diamond card.

  2. Determine which car gets better gas mileage. (miles per gallon)

  3. Bar Models (tape diagrams) • https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VWWcNSTK7Rw

  4. Ratio problems • The ratio of the number of John's stamps to the number of Peter's stamps is 5:8. Peter has 18 more stamps than John. If Peter gives 22 stamps to John, what will be the new ratio of the number of John's stamps to Peter's? • The ratio of men to the number of women in a factory is 3:8. There are 120 more women than men. If the number of men increases by 3 and the number of women decreases by 12, what will be the new ratio of the number of men to the number of women?

  5. Bar Diagram HW • S = 2,000 F = 1,500 • S = 100 D = 60 • J = 120 S = 180 • B = 100 G = 350 • B = 104 G = 91 • S = 629 F = 111 • Ski = 1250 Snow = 2500 • S = 530 A = 53

  6. Ratio problems • The ratio of the number of birds to the number of beasts is 3 to 7. How many beasts were there when the birds numbered 750? • The ratio of the number of smilers to the number of frowners was 13 to 2. When 52 students were smiling, how many were frowning? • The ratio of detritus to valuables was 2 to 9. If 80 pounds of detritus lay about, how many pounds of valuables were there?

  7. Solve using bar models • The ratio of the number of boys to girls in a class is 2:3. After 6 boys join the class, the ratio becomes 5:6. How many boys were in the class at first?

  8. Solve using bar models A box contained some red, blue, and green markers. For every 5 red markers, there were 2 blue markers. For every 3 blue markers, there were 5 green markers. • (a) Find the ratio of red markers to blue markers to green markers. • (b) When 6 red markers were removed from the box, 3/7 of the remaining markers were red markers. How many markers were left in the box?

  9. Homework • Worksheet • Mid module assessment
