  4. Strengthen Your CoreSteps 1-3 1. Look at your TEKS! 2. Identify your genres and Fig.19 skills 3. Choose your sequence. NOTES • This is basically your six weeks plan. • Each team member must be a part of the planning process.

  5. Common Genres Literary Texts • Literary Non-Fiction • Poetry • Drama • Fiction Informational Texts • Culture & History • Expository • Persuasive • Procedural

  6. Common Fig. 19 Skills • Establish purposes for reading texts • Ask questions of texts • Monitor and adjust comprehension • Make inferences and provide textual evidence to support understanding • Summarize information • Make connections

  8. Using the Core • The core curriculum has great resources and the main TEKS have already been identified for you. • You can use the stories and adapt the questions/activities to fit your specific needs. • This does not follow the sequence of the book.

  9. Picture Books • This is a great way to introduce the concepts/skills for each unit. • The students enjoy being read to at every age. • Teacher models good fluency and expressive reading. • Unique way to engage the students. • Can also use books on tape, a guest reader, and Reading Rainbow

  10. Strengthen Your CoreSteps 6-9 6. Create your foldable. 7. Create your questions using question stems. 8. Create your assessment. 9. Choose re-enforcement activities. NOTES • This must be completed before you begin teaching the unit. • Each team member must be a part of the creative process.

Importance of Foldables • Fosters open-ended responses • Allows for easy differentiation of texts and products • Exposes students to multiple graphic organizers • Re-enforces writing skills • Reusable NOTES • There are some examples on the table for you to view! • I’ve included a bi-fold and tri-fold template in the iSummit app.
