  2. Location and History • The Very Large Array (VLA) radio telescope is located on the plains of San Agustin, west of Socorro, New Mexico, and is owned by the National Radio Astronomy Observatory. • It was established in the 1950s and is a radio wave telescope.

  3. Characteristics • The observatory consists of 27 independent antennas, each. • It weighs 209 metric tons • the array acts as a single antenna with that diameter. The smallest angular resolution that can be reached is about 0.05 arcs seconds at a wavelength of 7 mm
