  2. Mission of NPRD To protectand rescue:- health and life- properties- environment in - emergency situations, accidents and major accidents - natural, technological or combined disasters

  3. Internal Organization (Official Gazette,47/2012) The NPRD consists of: • Civil Protection Sector • Fire Fighting Sector • National Protection and Rescue Communication and Information System • Fire Fighting, Protection and Rescue School • General Services Sector

  4. Strategic Partners • Ministries: • Ministry of Interior • Ministry of Health • Ministry of Defence • Ministry of the Sea, Transport and Infrastructure • Ministry of Environmental and Nature Protection • National Administrative Organizations: • National Meteorological and Hydrological Service • National Institute of Radiological and Nuclear Safety • Others: Croatian Mountain Rescue Service,Croatian Mine Action Centre, Croatian Red Cross, Croatian Association for the training of dogs in searching, diving clubs, hunting associations...

  5. NPRD and NHMSs Synergy • Planning, prevention, preparedness and prediction • Risk assessment, as outcome of the interaction between a hazard phenomena and vulnerability • Disaster Risk Management • Effective early warning and public alert, response, recovery and reconstruction • Support to SAR teams (Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre, Croatian Mountain Rescue Service) and others

Conclusions • The National Protection and Rescue Directorate is very interested in short-term, medium-term and season forecasts dealing with efficient protection and resue activities and high level of public safety • Public Safety is not a matter of technology but of commitment, cooperation, decision making, cultural and social awareness
