  4. 2011-2012 Calendar Jan. 4th– Report Card with 1st semester grades Jan. 18th – 8th Grade Writing Assessment Feb. 6th – 3rd 9 weeks progress report Feb. – March – High School Registration March 19th – 3rd 9 weeks report cards go home April 10-19th CRCT Testing April 23rd – 4th 9 weeks progress reports May – CRCT math and reading results, remediation May 14-18th - CRCT Retest May 18th – 8th grade dance June 1st – Final Report Card mailed July – CRCT retest information

  5. 8th Grade Dance Friday, May 18th (7-9:30 in FSMS cafeteria) Tickets $15.oo (pre-sold – cash only) Semi formal (no blue jeans, tennis shoe, tuxes or limo’s) No media, lunch fines, or book fees No office/bus referrals (CRCT to Dance)

Douglas County Promotion Criteria(Student/Parent Handbook pg. 6) A student may be considered for retention if: Absences total 15 days or more Final grades include failures in any two or more of the core academic areas of reading, language arts, science, social studies, math or foreign language Performance indicates that additional remediation is needed in two or more core academic areas (A combination of any of the above may show greater need for retention than when only one indicator is present.)

State Promotion Criteria(Student/Parent Handbook pg. 6) No student may be promoted to the ninth grade except as provided below: • No eighth grade student shall be promoted to the ninth grade if the student does not meet expectations on the reading and math sections of the CRCT (defined by Office of Student Achievement in accordance with O.C.G.A. 20-2-281) AND • Meet promotion standards and criteria of Douglas County • Absences total 15 days or more • Final grades include failures in any two or more of the core academic areas of reading, language arts, science, social studies, math or foreign language • Performance indicates that additional remediation is needed in two or more core academic areas

  14. Foreign Language Foreign Language students take either French or Spanish in place of Reading class. Other students may take Foreign Language classes beginning in 9th grade. French and Spanish students MUST meet the READING standard of 25 books each year.

  15. Foreign Language Common District Assessments are required CDA’s are aligned to the Georgia Standards French has 1 per year (more to be added). Spanish has 3 per year. Please contact Mr. Hunter or Mr. Pennington with any questions.

  21. Social Studies Resources Quizzes and tests are given on Wednesdays! Ms. Watson has tutoring on Tuesdays 4-5 pm. Ms. Gilreath has tutoring on Wednesdays at 7:30 am and 4-5 pm. Your child should tell us ahead of time if they are coming. The Social Studies CRCT includes four areas: 1. History 3. Government 2. Geography 4. Economics Our websites are updated regularly and have many different study materials. Please use it as much as possible!

  22. Science Resources www.pearsonsuccessnet.com Most students should have a login and password but if not see your Science teacher. Science Fair Project: The project will count as two test grade this nine-weeks. Please help your child in their effort to complete the project. Information on science fair project can be found on Mrs. Amadi’s or Mrs. Cagle’s website.

  23. Questions We will now answer any general questions you may have. Teachers are spread out in the cafeteria to answer specific subject area questions. If you would like to talk specifically about your child’s grades, please email/call that teacher. You may also email/call Ms. Gilreath or Mrs. Watson for a Parent Teacher Conference anytime you like.
