  3. Vision Statement: Joshua ISD will be a highly acclaimed model of educational excellence.

  4. New Student Registration • All new students to Joshua ISD must provide the following: • Birth Certificate • Social Security Card • Current Immunization Record • Last Report Card • Parent Driver’s License • Proof of Residency • Utility Bill from July 2014 or August 2014 • Current lease or mortgage • Withdrawal form from previous district/campus

  5. Online Registration The district is working to make registration for returning students more convenient for our parents by implementing an Online Annual Registration (OAR) system for the 2014-15 school year. Parents of returning student will use the OAR process to provide the information normally completed on paper during registration.

  6. Proof of Residency • All returning students to Joshua ISD must provide proof of residency PRIOR to picking up their child’s schedule. • Examples… • Utility Bill dated July 2014 or August 2014 • Gas • Water • Electric • Copy of current Lease or Mortgage

Proof of Residency Dates @ Joshua High School • Parent and/or Guardian may show proof of residency @ JHS the following dates: • Wednesday, August 6th—7am to 4pm • Thursday, August 7th—7am to 6pm • Monday, August 11th—7am to 4pm • Tuesday, August 12th—7am to 6pm • Students will NOT be able to get their schedule without showing proof of residency @ the JHS first. 

  8. Immunizations • All new students must provide the nurse with a current shot record prior to picking up their 8th grade schedule in August 2014. • **Returning students do not have to provide a copy of a new shot record. • JISD requirements for immunization are posted on the Joshua ISD website. • http://www.joshuaisd.org/Page/173

Course Selections • Course Selection Forms will be shared with current 7th grade students in Technology classes @ LMS • February 10th—Mrs. Lester’s class • February 11th—Mr. Wade’s class • February 12th—Mr. Scott’s class • If your child is absent the day LMS counselors visit technology classes, the teacher will provide the student with a course selection form & send the student to the counselor if he/she has any questions. • All Course Selection Forms are to be turned • in to the Technology teacher by • Wednesday, February 19th • Students will be entering course selections into the computer the last week of February.

  12. Athletics • “Participating in the athletic program is a privilege and we encourage all to participate. However, if during the participation of athletics a student chooses not to follow the JISD Athletic Code of Conduct or prohibits instruction to other participants, that student may be removed from the athletic program.” ….Joshua ISD Athletic Code of Conduct • Boys Athletics • Football • Cross Country • Basketball • Track • Girls Athletics • Volleyball • Cross Country • Basketball • Track • **Students are encouraged to participate or try out for at least 2 sports.**

Athletic Physicals “The following information must be filled in and signed by either a Physician, a Physician Assistant licensed by a State Board of Physician Assistant Examiners, a Registered Nurse recognized as an Advanced Practice Nurse by the Board of Nurse Examiners, or a Doctor of Chiropractic.   20. Gifted & Talented • Students qualifying for GT services will have their academic needs met through an Honors class at LMS. • Honors English (English 1) • Honors Math (Algebra) • Honors Science (IPC) • Students do not go to the GT center at the secondary level.

Honors Classes • Honors’ eligibility is based on : • 7th grade teacher recommendation • Cumulative grades • STAAR results • Student’s work & study habits/skills • Honors spring testing results • Applies only to students not already in a Honors class • Testing is completed at LMS, in May, after STAAR testing • Parent permission required

Honors Classes • English I • Curriculum is more strenuous than a regular 8th grade reading class • A contract must be signed by the student & parent the first week of school. • Summer novel reading is required prior to first day of school. • Students not meeting Honors’ expectations/guidelines, will be removed from the class at the end of the 1st semester, & placed into an 8th grade reading class • Student earns 1 high school credit

Honors Classes • Algebra & IPC • Curriculum is more strenuous than regular 8th grade math and science courses. • A contract must be signed by the student & parent the first week of school. • Students not meeting Honors’ expectations/guidelines, will be removed from the class at the end of the 1st semester, & placed into an 8th grade math/science class • Student earns 1 high school credit for each course taken

  26. Skyward Gradebook • Parents are able to access: • Class schedule • Teacher names • Grades • Progress reports • 6wks grades • Exam grades • Semester grades

  27. Skyward Gradebook • Students & parents are able to click on individual grades & see the following: • Failing grades • Missing work • Date work was assigned • Test grades • Students are allowed to correct & return most failing grades.

Schedule Specifics • Students will have8class periods • Classes will be 45 minutes • Passing periods will be 4 minutes long • Lunch & Homeroom will be during 5th period • There will be 4 lunch times • Athletics will be during 3rd period • Practices will be afterschool till 5:30 • School is dismissed at 4pm • Parent pick up is around the back, on the south side of the building • Bus riders are picked up in the front of the building

  29. Lockers • Lockers are pre-assigned by the computer • They are not assigned by “first come/first serve” • Lockers may be decorated when students pick up their schedules in August • Students are also assigned a gym locker on the first day of school.
