  2. Michigan Merit Curriculum • 4 credits English/Language Arts • 4 credits Mathematics - Algebra I (may get credit in 8th grade) - Geometry - Algebra II - 1 additional Math or math-related credit Must have Math or math-related credit in Senior Year

  3. Michigan Merit Curriculum • 3 credits Science Biology Chemistry or Physics 1 additional Science credit • 3 credits Social Studies (3 ½ required by Bad Axe) ½ Civics (Government) ½ Economics US History and Geography World History and Geography

  4. Michigan Merit Curriculum • 1 credit – Health and Physical Education • 1 credit – Visual, Performing, Applied Arts • 2 credits – World Languages (instituted with the class of 2016) • On line learning experience

  5. Bad Axe High School Requirements • English 4 credits • Mathematics 4 credits • Science 3 credits • Social Studies 3 ½ credits • World Languages 1 credit • PE and Health 1 credit • Visual, Performing, or Industrial Arts 1 credit • Technology 1 credit • Speech ½ credit • Electives 5 credits

  6. English • State requires four credits of English to graduate • Colleges recommend four credits of English • Bad Axe High School has required four credits of English plus ½ credit Speech for quite some time

  7. English Sequence • English I (ninth grade) • Genre • Thematic • English II (tenth grade) • American Literature • English III (eleventh grade) • Thematic • Intensive Grammar Study • English IV (twelfth grade) • Technical Preparation • College Preparation • Advanced Placement

  8. To be successful in high school English • Read all types of prose and poetry • Fiction • Non-fiction • Point out words that may be unfamiliar and discuss • Read with your student – if they see you read, they know it is important • Check the progress reports – every two weeks • Check the website (www.badaxeps.org) for work – especially vocabulary and grammar work

Bad Axe High School Requirements • Mathematics - Algebra I (state requirement) credit may be obtained in the 8th grade - Geometry (state requirement) - Algebra II (state requirement) may be taken over 2 years and receive 2 credits when finished. - Math or math related class in Sr. Year Pre-Calc AP Calculus Accounting Business Math
