Korean Participation in ITER • Initiated from 2002 IAEA bilateral meeting with EU, US • Letter of Intent sent to ITER Parties in 2002 November • ITER Legal/Technical Experts visit to Korea in April, May 2003 • Approval from Korean National ST Council to join ITER Negotiation • Letter of Firm Intent sent in May 2003 • Joined ITER Negotiation from June 2003 as a full partner

KO Procurement Preparation • In 2004, - Comply with ITA as much as possible - Technical survey and search for qualified industries - Preliminary technical R&D for each procurement item for its cost estimation and for its manufacturing process • In 2005, - Selection process of qualified industries start - contract procedure start

  5. KO Procurement Preparation • In 2004, - Before ITER Joint Implementation Agreement - Operate Task Force Team as a temporary Domestic Agency(DA) - Possibly establishing DA at the end of 2004 • In 2005, - Full establishment of KO-DA - Operate DA with ITER Field Team

  6. Role of KO-Domestic Agency • ITA work and further R&D work for ITER procurement • ITER Liaison work • GOV Funding distribution to KO industries via k-FITA • QA/QC, and Export control of ITER procurement with ITER Field Team

  8. k-FITA Organization • Korea Fusion Industry and Technology Association established in 2003 August • Consists of - Industries participated in KSTAR project - Korean nuclear industries - Korean universities and research laboratories participated in KSTAR project

  9. k-FITA participating Korean Industries • Doosan, Hyundai, KISWIRE, POSCON, KOPEC, SFA, Wonshin etc. participated in KSTAR project • Korea Nuclear-Hydro Co.(KHNP), Korea Electricity Co.(KEPCO) plus subsidized nuclear industries

  10. k-FITA Work and Plan for ITER • Organizing preliminary technical workshop for the participating Korean industries(3 times) including Korean nuclear industries • Industrial procurement preparation for Korean ITER procurement package in close cooperation with Korean fusion community, DA, and foreign industries

  11. KSTAR as ITER Pilot Plant • Base work for KO participation to ITER • Test bed for ITER operation and preparation work for ITER modification and upgrade - in heating and current drive - in diagnostics - in plasma and machine control

  12. Organizational Work for KSTAR as ITER Pilot Plant • Bilateral cooperation meeting with JA in April 2004; experts from JAERI, NIFS • Bilateral cooperation meeting with EU in May 2004; experts from EFDA, CEA, IPP, ENEA • Planned one with RF and CN Proposal: Bilateral meeting with US
