  3. Safety • 5 out of 7 crashed involved northbound traffic being rear-ended • Crest in the roadway limits the sight distance at the intersection • 5 out of 7 crashes occurred in August

  4. Turning Movement Counts • Traffic was counted on Tuesday 9/1/15 from 6:00 AM to 7:00 PM • Two vehicles exited and three vehicles entered the driveway on the East side of the intersection • Three pedestrians were counted at the intersection and one cyclist AM peak hour (PM peak hour)

  5. Installed Improvements 2) Upgraded signing -Larger -Added Reflective Strip 1) Visibility Strips

  6. Options reviewed and removed from further consideration • Full color traffic signal • Roundabout • Lower crest curve in the roadway to improve sight distance • Installing no left turn signs to prohibit left into and out of Mt. Gilead Road at MD 30

  7. Options recommended for further consideration • Left Turn Bay on northbound MD 30 at Mt. Gilead Road • Intersection Control Beacon (ICB) • Hazard Identification Beacon (HIB)

  9. Left Turn Bay Concept 2 years plus to design and construct after funding is approved Estimated construction cost = $940,000

  10. ICB (Intersection Control Beacon) MD 30 (Hanover Pike) at Bortner Road/Dover Road

  11. Install Intersection Control Beacon (ICB) at intersection. Beacon would flash yellow along MD 30 and red along Mt. Gilead Road. (12 months plus) Estimated Construction Cost = $125,000 (Will need approval to qualify for Traffic Management funding.) ICB (Intersection Control Beacon) 12 months plus to design and construct after funding is approved Estimated construction cost = $125,000

  12. HIB (Hazard Identification Beacon) MD 128 (Butler Road) at Piney Grove Road (St Johns Church)

  13. Install Intersection Control Beacon (ICB) at intersection. Beacon would flash yellow along MD 30 and red along Mt. Gilead Road. (12 months plus) Estimated Construction Cost = $125,000 (Will need approval to qualify for Traffic Management funding.) HIB (Hazard Identification Beacon) 12 months plus to design and construct after funding is approved Estimated construction cost = $60,000
