Eligible Students (pages 2, 2) • 2009 Integrated Mathematics I, Algebra I, OCS Algebra I, Integrated Mathematics II (2003), Biology, OCS Biology, English I, and OCS English I • Students enrolled in OCS English II are NOT eligible to take the EOC test. • 2011-12 Courses For Credit Requiring an End-of-Course Test (http://www.ncpublicschools.org/accountability/testing/eoc/)

  4. Eligible Students (Special Situations) (pages 3, 2) • Advanced Placement Courses: Student must take the EOC test the first time the student takes the course. Students enrolled in AP courses who have previously received credit for a non-AP course of the same subject are not eligible to take the EOC test. • Students Identified as Limited English Proficient (LEP):Students identified as LEP scoring below Level 4.0 Expanding on the state-identified English language proficiency reading placement test and are in their first year in U.S. schools are not eligible to be assessed on the English I end-of-course test. • Students Repeating an Entire Course for Credit or Taking a Credit Recovery Course: (Handout): http://www.ncpublicschools.org/accountability/testing/eoc/

  5. School Test Coordinator’s Responsibilities Specific to EOC Online Testing (page 13) 14- Ensure appropriate test security procedures are followed. For example, secure online test items must not be visible on a computer monitor unless a test administrator, proctor, and student are present during the actual administration of the test. 17- Create or manage user accounts in NC Education for all test administrators. 18- Ensure information required in NC Education is complete and accurate before the designated deadline. 19- Ensure school test administrators can access the secure site. School test administrators must be notified that user accounts are confidential and designated as secure and are not to be shared with other personnel or students.

  6. EOC Test Books/Answer Sheets by Subject Area, Form Letter, and Color (pages 23, 25) Note: Forms for read aloud/small group administrations must be pulled at the local level. A read aloud testing session (i.e., small group) is allowed to use one test form (i.e., same form letter and form number) for this accommodation at one testing site (i.e., classroom). A different form (i.e., a different letter) must be used for each of these sessions within a school.

  8. Test Administrators Test administrators must by certified staff. Teachers Social workers Counselors Retired teachers Teacher assistants who are certified teachers

  9. Estimated Administration Time (pages 31, 32) • 150 minutes • 2 two-minute breaks every 60 minutes • Allow ample opportunity to complete the test. • As long as students are engaged and working and the maximum time allowed has not been reached, they must be given time to complete the test.

  10. Monitoring Students During Testing Walk frequently and quietly throughout the room. • Position self to have an unobstructed view of and easy access to students.   Do not read test questions from open student test books. Do notindicate answers to students. Some examples include but are not limited to: • telling students to “look at the question again” or offering similar advice; • making a facial expression, hand gesture, or utterance (e.g., coughing, clearing throat) to indicate approval or disapproval of the student’s response; and • standing beside the desk, reading a question, looking at the student’s response, and then pointing to the correct answer or pointing to the question as if to indicate “read the question again because you have bubbled the wrong answer.”  Test administrators and proctors (see proctor statement) cannothelp students: • by explaining the directions in their own words; • by explaining the meaning of any word in the directions, test questions, or answer choices; • by rephrasing test questions; • by translating a word or phrase into another language; or • by providing synonyms for unknown words.

Online Procedures to Complete BEFORE the Test Administration (page 35) Test administrators must: • obtain secure IDs and passwords from NCEd • register all students in NCEd(bulk upload – see handout) • enter responses to Student Interface Questions (SIQ) • schedule administration sessions date(s) and start time window(s) in NCEd

Online Procedures to Complete Following the Test Administration (page 46) • Complete Admin Entry tab coding for select students who (1) are absent from all makeup test sessions, (2) are identified only under Section 504, and/or (3) are identified with a transitory impairment. . • Complete and return Review of Accommodations Used During Testing form(s) See handout. • Complete the Accommodations Provided data screen for any student SIQs marked as requiring accommodations. Note: Scores will not be available until the Accommodations Provided is completed

Online Test Format (page 3) • SIQ must be completed for students requiring a different background color, Large Font, or documented accommodations BEFORE test day. • Regular or large font and different background colors are available to ALL students. • Consider for students who routinely use similar tools (e.g., color acetate overlays, colored paper, large print text). • Computer Reads Test Aloud—Student Controlled and/or the Multiple Testing Sessions accommodations must be entered into the SIQ BEFORE test day • Test administrators must complete the Accommodations Provided data screen AFTER each test administration for students marked as requiring Computer Reads Test Aloud—Student Controlled, Multiple Testing Sessions, or other documented accommodations in the SIQ. • Student scores will not be available until the Accommodations Provided data screen is completed for each accommodated student.

  21. Reason Codes 2011-12 • Purpose: Identify the reason or other special circumstances a test score is not included in a student’s record • Grade 8 Algebra I scores • Notify data manager. • May be manually entered into NC WISE

  22. Transcriptions One individual transcribes the student’s responses. One individual verifies the transcription. One individual observes the process. All 3 sign the outside cover of the test book. Separate the books when you return them to the Testing Department.

  23. Retest 1 No separate supplement for Retest 1; information on Retests located in each TAM. All students who score Achievement Level II on Regular administration must take Retest 1. Parents not allowed to opt out of Retest 1 for Level II students. Parents may request their Level I students take Retest 1. LEAs must grant all requests. Retest 1 may be given at any time following the Regular administration as long as scores are submitted to the NCDPI by 5:00 p.m., Friday, June 29, 2012. Local boards establish appropriate review procedures. LEAs may have more rigorous retesting policies, but they cannot exclude any particular group of students. Exemptions from Retest 1: Students identified as limited English proficient (LEP) and in their first year in U.S. schools who score below Level 4.0 Expanding on the state-identified English language proficiency reading placement test are exempt from Retest 1. Note: This exemption from Retest 1 does not apply for English 1 because the aforementioned students are not required to take the Regular administration of English 1.  Students who receive a medical exemption for the Regular administration of the test are also exempt from Retest 1. (All medical exceptions must be approved by the Division of Accountability Services/North Carolina Testing Program.)
