  2. Helping Today. Strengthening Tomorrow. At no time in the 91-year history of United Way of Greenville County have our donor contributions been more strategically invested in this community. United Way’s work centers around a commitment to achieving two goals: 1. Meeting Immediate Needs 2. Eliminating Future Needs

  3. Meeting Immediate Needs When you support United Way, you reach out to people in need right now. Your generosity supports local programs that are effectively addressing the health and crisis needs of individuals and families. THANKS TO YOUR SUPPORT OF UNITED WAY: • 59,200 people benefited from health and crisis programs/initiatives. • 26,229 people had their hunger needs immediately met. • 17,179 people gained access to needed health care and medications.

Eliminating Future Needs You also support efforts to eliminate future needs and create meaningful, lasting change that impacts everyone in Greenville County through targeting three priority issues: School Readiness: Ensuring all kids are ready to learn when they enter school.High School Graduation: Keeping students engaged in school so they graduate with options for the future. Financial Stability: Helping families gain financial stability and become self-supporting.

  5. Eliminating Future Needs by Creating a Cycle of Success With your help, United Way can create a cycle of success that is marked by key milestones in every person’s life. When babies are taught to learn, they become readers. When those readers succeed in school, they become graduates. When those graduates get good jobs and create stable homes, their families have a bright future. And they teach their babies to learn.

School Readiness TOGETHER, WE ARE MAKING PROGRESS: • 11,188 people benefited from School Readiness programs and initiatives. • 1,339 parents increased knowledge of parenting skills or achieved their personal education goal. • 557 children had access to high quality preschools. • 2,434 early childhood educators increased knowledge in early care practices. IMPROVED SCHOOL READINESS will lead to HIGHER GRADUATION RATES, DECREASED JUVENILE CRIME, LOWER TEEN PREGNANCY

High School Graduation TOGETHER, WE ARE MAKING PROGRESS: • 5,241 students were helped by High School Graduation programs/ initiatives. • 3,257 youths attended mentoring/tutoring programs. • 1,984 youths attended programs focused on preventing risky behaviors. • 54 out-of-school-time programs benefited from resources and quality improvement opportunities. • IMPROVED HIGH SCHOOL GRADUATION will lead to BETTER HEALTH, LOWER CRIME, HIGHER INCOME AS AN ADULT, LESS GOVERNMENT ASSISTANCE

Financial Stability TOGETHER, WE ARE MAKING PROGRESS: • 16,020 people benefited from Financial Stability programs and initiatives. • 6,363 families increased income and saved for assets. • 1,719 people enrolled in employment skills training or GED courses. • IMPROVED FINANCIAL STABILITY will lead to ACCESS TO HEALTH CARE, LESS PERSONAL DEBT, HOME OWNERSHIP, ADEQUATE RETIREMENT SAVINGS, LESS DOMESTIC VIOLENCE/ABUSE, INCREASED SCHOOL READINESS OF CHILDREN
