  2. What is ‘holy’? • The common view of holy: “pure” or “free from defilement • In a deeper sense, from the word “to be separate”; separate from impure or imperfect • Something holy is dedicated, special, reserved • This is a great description of God!

  3. Holy...because of God 1 Sam 2:2 “There is no one holy as the Lord” Holy covenant, holy promise, holy dwelling, holy mountain, holy city, holy ground, holy land, holy temple, holy words, holy apostles, holy brothers, holy nation, Holy Spirit, Holy One

  4. A picture of God’s holiness • Isaiah 6:1-6 (picture of the Lord on his throne) ...[the seraphs] were calling to one another: “Holy, holy , holy is the LORD Almighty; the whole earth is full of his glory.”

  5. “Woe to me!” I cried. “I am ruined! For I am a man of unclean lips, and I live among a people of unclean lips, and my eyes have seen the King... Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?” And I said, “Here am I. Send me!” He said, “Go...”

  6. 1 Peter 1:15, Rom 12:1 • But just as he who called you is holy, so be holy in all you do; for it is written: “Be holy, because I am holy.” • Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God—this is your spiritual act of worship.

  8. Knowing God • John Walton “There is no teaching more applicable in our lives than knowing God.” • How we view God affects every area of our lives. Our perspective on God’s character colors the way we feel and the way we treat others.

  9. Paul’s prayer (Eph 1:17) I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know him better.

  10. Let’s be a people who truly desire to know God and give God what He deserves!
