  1. I am writing these things so that The Letters of John Life Light First John 2:18-3:3 Page 1035 in Pew Bibles Love Confidence Born of God That you may know

  2. First John 2:18-3:3 • Children, it is the last hour. And as you have heard, "Antichrist is coming," even now many antichrists have come. We know from this that it is the last hour. • They went out from us, but they did not belong to us; for if they had belonged to us, they would have remained with us. However, they went out so that it might be made clear that none of them belongs to us.

  3. But you have an anointing from the Holy One, and you all have knowledge. • I have not written to you because you don't know the truth, but because you do know it, and because no lie comes from the truth. • Who is the liar, if not the one who denies that Jesus is the Messiah? He is the antichrist, the one who denies the Father and the Son.

  4. No one who denies the Son can have the Father; he who confesses the Son has the Father as well. • What you have heard from the beginning must remain in you. If what you have heard from the beginning remains in you, then you will remain in the Son and in the Father. • And this is the promise that He Himself made to us: eternal life.

  5. I have written these things to you about those who are trying to deceive you. • The anointing you received from Him remains in you, and you don't need anyone to teach you. Instead, His anointing teaches you about all things, and is true and is not a lie; just as it has taught you, remain in Him.

  6. Chapter 3 • If you know that He is righteous, you know this as well: everyone who does what is right has been born of Him. • Look at how great a love the Father has given us, that we should be called God's children. And we are! The reason the world does not know us is that it didn't know Him.

  7. Dear friends, we are God's children now, and what we will be has not yet been revealed. We know that when He appears, we will be like Him, because we will see Him as He is. • And everyone who has this hope in Him purifies himself just as He is pure.

  8. How to Live in The Last Hour First John 2:18-3:3 Page 1035 in Pew Bibles

  9. The Last Hour • 2:18 “Children, it is the last hour.” • The latter days (the last of the last days): a period of falling away and persecution • The last day: when Christ raises the dead and judges the world • 3. The period between Christ’s first and second coming-and a final opposition to Christ . >

  10. How to Live in The Last Hour… >

  11. 1. Be Able to Recognize Deceivers • 2:18 “And as you have heard, ‘Antichrist is coming,’ even now many antichrists have come. We know from this that it is the last hour.” >

  12. The Anti-Christ (singular) • 2nd Thessalonians 2:3-4 “Don’t let anyone deceive you in any way. For that day will not come unless the apostasy comes first and the man of lawlessness is revealed, the son of destruction. He opposes and exalts himself above every so-called god or object of worship, so that he sits in God's sanctuary, publicizing that he himself is God.” >

  13. Anti-Christs (plural) • Pretenders: “False Christs” (Matt. 24) • Resisters: Opposing the true Christ >

  14. You Can Recognize Them as Deserters • 2:19 “They went out from us, but they did not belong to us; for if they had belonged to us, they would have remained with us. However, they went out so that it might be made clear that none of them belongs to us.” Q >

  15. Warren Wiersbe: “If you will investigate the history of the false cults and antichristian religious systems in today's world, you will find that in most cases their founders started out in a local church! They were "with us" but not "of us," so they went out "from us" and started their own groups.” • Deserters are “never were’s” >

  16. You Can Recognize Them By Their Teachings • 2:22-23 “Who is the liar, if not the one who denies that Jesus is the Messiah? He is the antichrist, the one who denies the Father and the Son. No one who denies the Son can have the Father; he who confesses the Son has the Father as well.” • If what they believe about Jesus is wrong, NOTHING else can be trusted. >

  17. You Can Avoid Them by Clinging to God’s Promises • 2:25-26 “And this is the promise that He Himself made to us: eternal life. I have written these things to you about those who are trying to deceive you.” • God’s promises trump human personalities . >

  18. 2. Be in Tune With the Work of the Holy Spirit • 2:20-21 “But you have an anointing from the Holy One, and you all have knowledge. I have not written to you because you don't know the truth, but because you do know it, and because no lie comes from the truth.” >

  19. What is the Anointing? • In the Old Testament Kings, Prophets, and Priests were inaugurated, or “anointed,” by pouring oil over their heads. • The oil represented the power of the Holy Spirit • The word “Christ” means “Anointed one”; Jesus was anointed as Prophet, Priest, and King. • Anointed by the Spirit, not with oil • Christians are anointed with the Spirit >

  20. The Anointing • 2:27 “The anointing you received from Him remains in you, and you don't need anyone to teach you. Instead, His anointing teaches you about all things, and is true and is not a lie; just as it has taught you, remain in Him.” • Because of the Spirit’s indwelling, you should be able to detect false teaching and to recognize truth. . >

  21. 3. Stay Plugged In • 2:24 “What you have heard from the beginning must remain in you. If what you have heard from the beginning remains in you, then you will remain in the Son and in the Father.” Def >

  22. 3. Stay Plugged In • 2:24 “What you have heard from the beginning must remain in you. If what you have heard from the beginning remains in you, then you will remain in the Son and in the Father.” • To have a vital connection to • To rely on • To remain with vs list >

  23. Vs. 19 “If they had belonged to us, they would have remained with us” (fact) • Vs. 24a “What you have heard from the beginning must remain in you.” (caution) • Vs. 24b “If what you have heard from the beginning remains in you, then you will remain in the Son and in the Father. (promise) • Vs. 27 “The anointing you received from Him remains in you” (assurance) • Vs. 27 & 28 “Remain in Him” (command) >

  24. Vs. 28 “So now, little children, remain in Him, so that when He appears we may have boldness and not be ashamed before Him at His coming.” . >

  25. 4. Know Who You Are • 3:1 “Look at how great a love the Father has given us, that we should be called God's children. And we are! The reason the world does not know us is that it didn't know Him.” >

  26. The Child of God’s Standing • 3:1 “Look at how great a love the Father has given us, that we should be called God's children. And we are! The reason the world does not know us is that it didn't know Him.” >

  27. The Child of God’s Future • 3:2 “Dear friends, we are God's children now, and what we will be has not yet been revealed. We know that when He appears, we will be like Him, because we will see Him as He is.” >
