  1. Welcome to… Years 3 and 4 Classes 7, 8, 9

  2. What did you do at school today?

  3. Yabadabadoo! We are going back to the Stone Age… Our topic this term will explore life back in the Stone Age. As part of this topic we will be researching life through the ages and developing an understanding of areas such as cave paintings and fossils. The topic will be used to inspire the children as they develop skills across the whole curriculum.

  4. Trip!

  5. Have you got any homework to do? In both Years 3 and 4, reading remains a key part of homework. Please hear your child read aloud regularly, discuss their text with them and sign their reading diary. This really will help to support your child’s progress over the year. To help your children’s development in Mathematics please work with them to practise their multiplication tables regularly.

  6. Each week there will be one piece of written homework. This will be set on a Thursday and should be returned by the following Thursday. Homework will alternate between Maths and English or Topic. In addition to class homework, children will be given a weekly spelling list to practise and learn at home. Thank you… The children really benefit from the extra support you give them!!

  7. P.E. Physical Education Most weeks, children will take part in both an indoor PE session and an outdoor Games session. Children will need appropriate kit with them on their timetabled days. However, there may also be other opportunities to enjoy P.E. based activities during the week so it is greatly appreciated if the children can always have their full P.E. kit in school.

  8. Swimming… This year, classes in Years 3 and 4 will participate in ten weeks of swimming lessons. These sessions will take place at Cheltenham Recreation Centre and are run by fully qualified swimming teachers. The children will learn to gain confidence in the water and improve their swimming technique.

  9. Open door policy… Come and see us… Here at St. James’ we want every child to achieve their best and enjoy all the opportunities that school has to offer. We know that this can only happen if a child feels happy and confident. If you have any problems or concerns about your child, however small they may seem, please come and see us. Indeed, we all feel strongly that a close working partnership with parents and carers is essential to help the children achieve their potential.
