STORIA The history of Lazio is close to that of Rome. • Inhabited by many peoples, such as the Etruscans (the most advanced of all). • 753 BC foundation of Rome. The legend of Romolo e Remo. • The Roman Empire (Julius Caesar – Caligula – Nero – Augustus …). • Decline of the Empire – presence of the Catholic Church in Rome– the Papal States were created. • Foreign rule (Spain, France [Napoleon]…). • 1870 – Italian unification. Lazio was incorporated into the Kingdom of Italy.
L’ECONOMIA • Agriculture is the main traditional source of income. • Industrial development in Lazio is limited to the areas south of Rome. • 75% of the working population are employed in the services sector (Rome).
