  5. CALENDAR OF EVENTS July 17, 2012 - Verifications due for MTG and MCS. July 23, 2012 - EVRs due for GEAR UP Michigan for the 4th quarter. July 25, 2012 - EVRs due for GEAR UP College Day for the 4th quarter. July 26, 2012 - Final payments made for MTG and MCS.

  6. MCs and MTG MICHIGAN COMPETITIVE SCHOLARSHIP Michigan Tuition Grant

  7. Awarding Mcs and MTG • To ensure that we do not exceed our appropriation we must determine how many eligible students have applied for the program. • Student and fund attrition from prior years is compared to current application numbers. • Since MTG applicants have until June 30th to apply, we do not have a total number yet.

  8. Mcs and mtg awards • Legislation directs that the maximum MCS award be set at $575 . . . • . . . and that the maximum MTG award be set at $1,512. • As of June 20, preliminary numbers indicate that these amounts make sense.

  9. Annual Security Review • SSG is required to verify all access into the MISO system. • Directors are asked to review which staff at your institution should have access to the system and submit the names to SSG by June 29th. • Anyone not on the list but currently active in the system, will have their access removed.

  10. Tuition Incentive Program TIP

  11. Tuition Incentive Program • NEW language in the appropriations bill defines an individual eligible if “he or she graduates from high school with a diploma or certificate of completion or completes his or her GED. • A student with a certificate of completion is eligible for full TIP benefits.

  12. Tuition Incentive Program • New language regarding incarcerated individuals reads: “incarcerated” does not include detention of a juvenile in a state-operated or privately operated juvenile detention facility.” • The institution is responsible for determining if the facility is an eligible one. • Find a list of state facilities at www.mjdaonline.org and click on agency information.

  13. Tuition Incentive Program • Eligibility clarification: Legislative language states that an individual can qualify for TIP as early as the sixth grade. DHS provides SSG will the file of Medicaid eligible students, but they can only compile this by age. Therefore, we use age 12.

  14. Tuition Incentive Program • Updated language: “Students may be identified as TIP eligible as early as age 12. Since the student must be eligible for 24 months out of a 36 consecutive month period, we will look back at the 36 month period prior to the date of the student’s 12th birthday. Medicaid eligibility prior to that 36-month period is not counted.”

  15. Children Of Veterans Tuition Grant CVTG

  16. Children of Veterans tuition Grant • Clarification: This award is for undergraduate study only. A student with a baccalaureate degree may take undergraduate courses that are applicable toward a second bachelor’s degree and receive the award.

  17. New System A Discussion

  18. SPECIAL YEAR-END REPORTEXAMPLE • We would provide a year-end file showing your students and each award they received for total dollars received from SSG. • We would want information back on the progress of each student and what percent the SSG dollars comprised of the total aid package awarded by your institution.
