Navigating Challenges in Year One: Leadership in Jersey City Public Schools

In his inaugural year, Principal Darren L. Mischel faces unique challenges at Frank R. Conwell PS#3. This school embodies the complexities of Jersey City's political landscape, marked by PTA elections, affluence versus poverty, and a trust deficit between parents and staff. Key strategies include developing a collaborative partnership with the Assistant Principal, enhancing visibility, and fostering a trusting relationship with parents. Emphasizing a shift from teaching to learning, Mischel plans to implement data-driven instruction, establish Professional Learning Communities, and revamp assessments for improved student engagement.
