  2. India • The landforms in this country are the Himalayan mountain range, which are the youngest and highest mountain range in the world. The Ganges River is over 1,500 feet long and begins in the Himalaya’s. The Thar Desert is the 7th largest desert in the world, covering 92,200 square miles. The Andaman Islands are in the Bay of Bengal, it is an archipelago, it contains three hundred island, they are densewith rain forest, and one of those islands contains a historically active volcano.

  3. The Taj Mahal • The TajMahal is one of the new seven wonders of the world • http://www.tajmahal.gov.in/ • It is located in Arga, India. • It is a tomb for an emperor’s wife, it was built in 1630 A.D, it took 22 years to build, and 20,000 workers.

  4. QutabMinar • It is an Islamic sculpture • It was built by Qutab-ud-din Aibak • It is located in Delhi • Jama Masjid • It is one of the largest mosques in India • It was built in 1656 by Shah Jahan.

  5. India Gate • This structure was built in remembrance of the soldiers in World War 1. There is an eternal flame under the gate in their tribute.

  6. Lotus Temple • It was built in 1986, made for the Bahai faith, and is located on the southern part of Delhi.

  7. Kanyakumari • It is in the Bay of Bengal. • From this spot you can see the sunset, and the moon rise at the same time

  8. Language • The main languages in the country of India are English and Hindi. The reason that one of the main languages in India is English, is because Great Britain used to control a large part of the world, including India. So, they brought along with them language culture and more.

  9. Government • The type of government in India is a Federal Republic. Important people in the Indian government are the Prime Minister, who is Manmohan Singh, and the president who is DevisinghPatil.

Holidays • Some major holidays in India are New Years celebrated on January 1st, Guru Day celebrated on January 5th, Lhori celebrated on January 13th, and Republic Day celebrated on January 26th . • In February, they celebrate Mahashivratri on the 20th • In the moth of March they celebrate are Holi on the 8th and HollaMohalla on the 9th

  11. Holidays (Cont.) • Holidays in the month of April are RavNavmi celebrated on the 1st. • As you can see, the list goes on and India celebrates a lot more holidays than the U.S

  12. India Holiday • Republic Day- this holiday is celebrated on January 26th. This is an important day in India because it is the day that the Indian constitution was created and that Indian population was given independence from Great Britain. It is the day that they adopted the Constitution. It is celebrated in Delhi, there is also a parade on that day.

  13. Economy • The major economy in India is a market economy. It is one of the worlds largest and fastest growing economies, but it is also one of the poorest countries in the world. The currency in India is the rupee.

  14. Interesting Facts • India is just a nick-name for The Republic of India. • The national motto of India is “ Truth alone triumphs”. • The TajMahal is a historical landmark in India it took 22 years to build and over 20,000 workers to construct. It is a tomb for the wife emperor built in 1630.

  15. India Interesting Facts • The national animal is the Tiger, the national sport is hockey, the national bird is the peacock, the national flower is the lotus, national fruit is the mango, and the national tree is the Banyan tree.
