  1. Small hydropower plants on drinking water supply in Orava

  2. Coordinated hydroelectric system consisting of 9 turbines in 6 small hydropower plants.

  3. Drinking water supply in Orava provides drinking water for 4 towns and 29 villages (73 000 people) • The pipeline is 503 km long. • The water source is in the village called Oravice (in Bobrovecká Valley – part of Tatras National Park). • Water flowing through the drinking water supply is of exceptional quality (it fulfils criteria for drinking water for babies)

  4. The water source Oravice

  5. Small hydropower plants require reasonable height of fall of water (head) – up to 357.1 m • The higher the head the better because you’ll need less water to produce a given amount of power.

  6. The biggest part of coordinated hydroelectric system with the highest power production is located in chlorination station in Oravice.

  7. Small hydropower plant was constructed in 2008. • 2 turbines, which generate up to 222 kW, are installed there. • Head (height of fall of water) in this part is from 79 to 114 metres.

  8. The last plant in coordinated hydroelectric system is build on the hill near DolnýKubín • It was constructed in 2012. • There is 1 turbine which generates 75 kW and the head is 60.6 m.

  9. All small hydropower plants in coordinated hydroelectric system are automatic. They are run remotely by microprocessor system. • The operation and maintenance is provided by Water Company in DolnýKubín. • Coordinated hydroelectric system makes 150,000 € a year.
