  3. What happpened in Gallipoli ? • The Battle of Gallipoli took place on the Turkish peninsula of Gallipoli in World War I, in 1915. A combined Allied operation was mounted in order to eventually capture the Ottoman capital of Constantinople. The attempt failed, and an estimated 500,000 soldiers were killed, divided about equally between the Allied forces and the Turkish army

  4. When and why do we remember ANZAC day • ANZAC Day was originally a day of remembrance for the Australian and New Zealand soldiers who landed at Gallipoli on the 25th of April, 1915. The day commemorates the bravery and sacrifice of the thousands of men who died during the eight-month occupation of Gallipoli.It is also significant as it was the first time Australian troops fought under the Australian flag, as Federation had only been achieved 14 years earlier, and the flag unique to Australia had only been created since then. Subsequently, ANZAC Day has become a day of remembrance for all Australian and New Zealand soldiers who gave their lives in wars

  6. When and how did the war end ? • The final Allied push towards the German border began on October 17, 1918. As the BritishFrench and American armies advanced, the alliance between the Central Powers began to collapse. Turkey signed an armistice at the end of October, Austria-Hungary followed on November 3. • Germany began to crumble from within. Faced with the prospect of returning to sea, the sailors of the High Seas Fleet stationed at Kiel mutinied on October 29. Within a few days, the entire city was in their control and the revolution spread throughout the country. On November 9 the Kaiser abdicated; slipping across the border into the Netherlands and exile. A German Republic was declared and peace feelers extended to the Allies. At 5 AM on the morning of November 11 an armistice was signed in a railroad car parked in a French forest near the front lines. and the war ended
