The place… That functions as the heart of the neighborhood To find the services and programs that support and develop to academic and socioemotional success Where common goals are accomplished through a team approach Where peer, graduate and professional staff come together to meet the needs of students for meeting, gathering, connecting, seeing and being seen Neighborhood Engagement Centers

Collaborative Learning Center • Neighborhood Academic Advisors and Academic Coaching • NSSC Initiatives (Dow STEM Scholars, Detroit MADE, Spartan Success Scholars) • Writing Center • Math Learning Center (MLC) • Social Science Help Rooms • Chemistry 141 Tutoring • MSU Libraries • MRULE Intercultural dialogue and social action groups • Health Clinics • Exercise Classes • Other guest services (Career Services, Financial Aid, Study Abroad, College Advisors, etc.) • Counseling and Psychiatric Services (CAPS) Services Provided through the Engagement Center

Encourage your Spartan to do the following: • Visit their professor during office hours • See their Academic advisor twice a semester • Know and use your campus resources early and often • Encourage them to get to know people who are from different places and have different life experiences • Encourage your student to engage in experiences such as Education Abroad, Service-learning and Undergraduate Research • Help them discover ways to invest and connect in the MSU Community through academics, leadership, involvement and/or engagement with their peers • Remind them to read their MSU Emails • Check in on their time management skills and behaviors • Ask them what goals they have set for themselves, both by the semester and the academic year • Remind them that help seeking behavior is a successful behavior Ten Ways You Can Support your Spartan
