  3. STAGES OF SOCIALIZATION • Anticipatory Socialization – before entering the organization • Realistic job preview: setting real expectations about the organization

  4. STAGES OF SOCIALIZATION • Accommodation – encountering the initial day-to-day reality • Psychological contract • Reinforce correct expectations • Set a challenging, non-political assignment • Assign a mentor (to guide, not direct)

  5. STAGES OF SOCIALIZATION • Role Management – fine-tuning and managing the role • Managing the organizational politics • Balancing family and work life

  6. MOTIVES FOR SOCIAL CONFORMITY COMPLIANCE • prompted by the desire to acquire rewards or avoid punishment. IDENTIFICATION • prompted by perceptions that those who promote the norm are attractive or similar to oneself. INTERNALIZATION • prompted by true acceptance of the beliefs, values and attitudes that underlie the norm.

  7. CULTURE • The translation of the strategic vision into shared beliefs, values, and assumptions and into daily behaviours.
