The Internet. Using the Internet Web addresses Searching Favourites Saving / Printing web pages. Web addresses: UCH’s web address (or URL) is www.uch.ac.uk. Tabbed browsing – select tab. Save a website in your Favourites list. Choose ‘Favourites’ and “Add to Favourites”.

  2. Web addresses: UCH’s web address (or URL) is www.uch.ac.uk

  3. Tabbed browsing – select tab

  4. Save a website in your Favourites list

  5. Choose ‘Favourites’ and “Add to Favourites”

  6. Organising your Favourites • You can….. • Create folders • Move between folders • Drag to different folders • Rename • Delete

  7. Select & Copy text / images • To select text, click at the start of the text • Hold the click, then move the mouse to the end of the text you want to copy • The text becomes highlighted

  8. Cut and paste a highlighted section into word: right-click and “copy”

  9. Open word and click on the ‘paste’ icon

  10. The work you selected can now be saved in word (Save As….)

  11. You could choose to save the information directly from the web page - select ‘Page’ and ‘Save As’ from the toolbar

  12. Saving Web pages, continued... Save as type: 1. Web Page complete… 2. Web Archive, single file… 3. Web Page, HTML only… 4. Text file… There maybe other options, depending on your browser! ***Remember to save your work on a pen drive or the ‘m’ drive.

  13. Saving Web pages, continued... • Web Page complete… • This saves the page and creates a subfolder containing the graphics etc. • Web Archive, single file… • Does what it says on the tin: stores everything into a single file. • Web Page, HTML only… • Low graphics option.

  14. Issues and solutions on printing from the internet • Information does not fit on a standard A4 sheet • Highlight what you need and save in a word document then print – as detailed in previous slides • Printing un-necessary pages • Choose “print preview”– see next slides

  15. To print just what you need, select the printer icon drop-down arrow

Printing from the Internet, continued.. • Some Websites have, • “Printer friendly” option, which formats the page for printing. • Low Graphics option that may print better. • Have the content available as a download. • Shrink to fit, • The latest browsers, such as Firefox, Internet Explorer 7 (IE7) etc. have this option: saves having to select Landscape format from the print setup.
