Planning for permanent scientific support for HLY The TF-HE will monitor the plans of SANCO and Eurostat to move from scientific support provided by short-term public health projects (EHEMU, EHLEIS) to a more permanent structure in charge of HLY analysis. The TF-HE will explore possibilities within the EU Joint Research Centre.

  3. Why is permanent support needed? HLY features high on all EC agendas Historically EHEMU (2004-7) and EHLEIS (2007-10) have provided methodological rigour checks and balances more in-depth analysis training face-to-face and via website online access to wider range of HLY Support by individual projects fails to provide continuity recognise the need for basic trend/gaps analyses on a regular basis Still lack of early stage researchers knowledgeable in methods need to develop and disseminate new methods – meta-regression

  4. What would a support unit do? Provide scientific and technical support for summary measures of population health (SMPH) Monitoring trends in HLY Explaining variations in HLY across MS Computing HLY within subgroups: SES Developing multistate life tables Developing projections of HLY Sensitivity of HLY to exclusion of institutional population and methods to improve

  6. What would a support unit do? Provide training opportunities Assisting MS with national data – visiting positions Early Stage Researcher training

  7. How could this be achieved? Part of Joint Research Centre

IHCP • Science for a Healthier Life • The Institute for Health and Consumer Protection (IHCP) fulfils the JRC's mission in providing scientific support to policies related to health and consumer protection. • The main foci of the Institute's work are in support of European legislation associated with: • Chemicals (REACH) and biocides • Genetically-modified organisms • Cosmetics and animal welfare • Consumer products • Food and food-contact materials • IHCP works in close partnership with other Commission services by providing technical support and results from scientific research/analysis in its related areas of competence. • IHCP has long-established skills in exposure, effect and risk assessment which it currently applies to a number of domains which potentially have a major impact on the health of persons residing in the EU.
