  1. The United States Constitution Created by: William, Rachel, Jordan, Eric

  2. Articles of Confederation • First constitution of the United States • The government could not control the people • More state power than national government • No way to pay off the money they owed • No judges to take care of crimes • Could not control trading between states

  3. Passing AOC • Congress wanted to change some of the ways of the Articles of Confederation to make it better for the people • Congress could make laws but could not make anyone follow them • There was no President to control America

  4. We Are Angry! • The Articles of Confederation could not control America • People were angry that they owed so much money • This led to the Grand Meeting to talk about a new government

  5. Making a New Government • People had just suffered from the Revolutionary War (caused by people wanting to express their feelings) • No one could pay off the money they owed • Farmers decided to go against the government because of unfair taxes (Shay’s Rebellion) • People got together in Philadelphia to talk over the laws of the government

  6. Making of the US Constitution • Since people thought that the government was becoming soured, they decided to make up a new government • These meetings lasted 4 months to discuss the new laws • The people finally came up with a new government in 1787 • The new government was described in the US Constitution
