  5. John the Baptist; Luke 3:1-20 4 As it is written in the book of the words of Isaiah the prophet: ‘A voice of one calling in the wilderness, “Prepare the way for the Lord, make straight paths for him. 5 Every valley shall be filled in, every mountain and hill made low. The crooked roads shall become straight, the rough ways smooth. 6 And all people will see God’s salvation.”

  6. Luke 4:32 They were amazed at his teaching, because his words had authority.

  7. Luke 4:43 43 But he said, ‘I must preach the good news of the kingdom of God to the other towns also, because that is why I was sent.’

  8. Luke 6:12-16 12 One of those days Jesus went out to a mountainside to pray, and spent the night praying to God. 13 When morning came, he called his disciples to him and chose twelve of them, whom he also designated apostles:

  9. Luke 5:20 20When Jesus saw their faith, he said, ‘Friend, your sins are forgiven.’

  10. Luke 7:18-23 18 John’s disciples told him about all these things. Calling two of them, 19 he sent them to the Lord to ask, ‘Are you the one who is to come, or should we expect someone else?’ 20 When the men came to Jesus, they said, ‘John the Baptist sent us to you to ask, “Are you the one who is to come, or should we expect someone else?”’

  11. Luke 7:18-23 21 At that very time Jesus cured many who had diseases, illnesses and evil spirits, and gave sight to many who were blind. 22 So he replied to the messengers, ‘Go back and report to John what you have seen and heard: the blind receive sight, the lame walk, those who have leprosy are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, and the good news is proclaimed to the poor.

  12. Luke 9:18-20 20 ‘But what about you?’ he asked. ‘Who do you say I am?’ Peter answered, ‘God’s Messiah.’

  13. Luke 10: 1-24 Jesus sends out the seventy-two 16 ‘Whoever listens to you listens to me; whoever rejects you rejects me; but whoever rejects me rejects him who sent me.’

  14. Luke 10: 1-24 22 ‘All things have been committed to me by my Father. No one knows who the Son is except the Father, and no one knows who the Father is except the Son and those to whom the Son chooses to reveal him.’

  15. Luke 19:37-38 37 When he came near the place where the road goes down the Mount of Olives, the whole crowd of disciples began joyfully to praise God in loud voices for all the miracles they had seen: 38 ‘Blessed is the king who comes in the name of the Lord!’ ‘Peace in heaven and glory in the highest!’

  16. We are still monotheists!

  17. Two Rails to travel on • When Jesus acted the God revealed in the OT acted / Jesus was God’s agent (identity) • Jesus was not the Father, (diversity)

  18. The son of God ≠ God the son

  19. The Gospel of the Trinity Transcendence and Immanence

  20. 15 Jesus replied, ‘Let it be so now; it is proper for us to do this to fulfil all righteousness.’ Then John consented.

  21. 16 As soon as Jesus was baptised, he went up out of the water. At that moment heaven was opened, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and alighting on him.

  22. 17 And a voice from heaven said, ‘This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased.’
