  2. story structure • Literary element that is generally described as the structural framework that underlies the order and manner in which a narrative is presented to a reader, listener, or viewer; contains the plot and setting

  3. flashback • An interruption in the narrative order to show an event that happened earlier. Flashbacks usually give background on a character or event and show how the past influenced a character.

  4. science fiction • Fantasy that takes the reader into an imaginary environment and time, often the future

  5. rising action • A related series of incidents in a literary plot that build toward the greatest point of interest

  6. climax • The most intense, or exciting point of something; peak; pinnacle

  7. intonation • the rise and fall in the voice of speaking

  8. advertisement • something that is shown or presented to the public to help sell a product or make an announcement

  9. root • the basic source or origin of something

  10. expository text • explains the nature of something, such as an object, idea, or theme in the real world

  11. propaganda • spreading of information in order to influence public opinion and to manipulate other people’s beliefs
