About Olympics • The modern Olympic Games is the leading international sporting event featuring summer and winter sports competitions. • For the most recent Summer Games that were held in London, see 2012 Summer Olympics. For the Summer Games to be held in Rio de Janeiro, see 2016 Summer Olympics. For the Winter Games to be held in Sochi, Russia, see 2014 Winter Olympics. • The evolution of the Olympic Movement during the 20th and 21st centuries has resulted in several changes to the Olympic Games.

History of games • Olympia, the site of the ancient Olympic Games, is in the western part of the Peloponnese which, according to Greek mythology, is the island of "Pelops", the founder of the Olympic Games. • the first ancient Olympic Games can be traced back to 776 BC. They were dedicated to the Olympian gods and were staged on the ancient plains of Olympia.

  4. Financing • The costs of mounting the Games are separate from those for building the venues and infrastructure, and redeveloping the land for the Olympic Park.   6. Basketball at the 2012 Summer Olympics • Basketball at the 2012 Summer Olympics was held from 28 July to 12 August 2012. The preliminary matches and the women's quarterfinal matches were played in the newBasketball Arena in Olympic Park which seats up to 12,000 spectators. The men's knockout games and the women's games from semifinals onward were played in the North Greenwich Arena. The US men's and US women's teams both successfully defended their Olympic basketball championships of 2008. Two settings in London have been used for the basketball tournaments: The O2 Arena (referred to as the "North Greenwich.

Men’s 100m in London • Bolt, doubted by many after a season dogged by defeat and injury, ran the second-fastest time ever to beat fellow Jamaican and training partner Yohan Blake into silver and American Justin Gatlin into bronze. Bolt's 9.63 seconds, just 0.05 seconds slower than his own staggering world record,was a new Olympic best and capped a race in which seven men went under 10 seconds, with only the injured Asafa Powell failing to break that mark.

Highlights of 2012 Olympics • The 2012 Olympic games were special as it was for the first time that every nation and sport included female competitors.  American swimmer Michael Phelps and Jamaican sprinter Usain Bolt  emerged as legends during the Olympic games. Michael Phelps retired with the title - "The most decorated Olympian of all times" with winning in all 22 medals at Olympics including 18 Gold, 2 Silver and 2 bronze medals. During London Olympics Phelps won 4 Gold and 2 silver medals. Also the one memorable moment in the London Olympics was when Sarah Attar the one of 2 females included in the Saudi Arabian delegation. Sarah competed in the Heat 6 of the women's 800m. 

  9. Rio De Janeiro 2016 • The host city of the Games will be Rio de Janeiro,Brazil. They are scheduled to be held from August 5 to 21, 2016, makng these the second Summer Olympics to be held during the host city's winter (the first was the Sydney 2000 Olympics, whose first week was held during the Southern Hemisphere's winter). There will be 30 competition venues mainly in BarradaTijuca, but also in three other zones: Copacabana, Deodoro, and Maracanã. It will mark the first time a South American.
