Background • India has world’s 5th largest installed electricity capacity • India is world’s 4th largest energy consumer • Energy demand is growing at an average of 3.6 percent per annum • Energy conservation potential has been assessed as 23 percent • Of the 1.4 billion people of the world who have no access to electricity in the world, India accounts for over 300 million.

Change ProjectEnergy Efficiency in India & Role of CSOs Objective: Develop a comprehensive view on energy efficiency status in two states in India and map the role of CSOs in its enhancement Beneficiaries: CSOs, Consumers, Utility, Regulators, CUTS, etc.
Methodology Research – Literature Review Research Activity – Baseline Survey (200 CSOs i.e., 100 CSOs Gujarat & 100 CSOs in West Bengal) Research Paper – Analysis of Literature Review & Baseline Survey
Survey to Map • CSOs awareness on the regulatory aspects of EE • CSOs awareness on their role in regulatory aspects including tariff application • Initiatives by CSOs to conserve energy or generate awareness on EE • Role Utility, Regulator, Media etc played in capacity building of CSOs • Map the energy efficient practices among the CSOs
