  1. Individual Learning Plan for Kentucky

  2. Background: Data Integration • State-wide unique student identifiers are used to link information from a number of sources. • Integration with demographic information from Kentucky’s state student information system. • Integration with assessment results available at the state level. • As additional data becomes available at the state level, information will be brought directly into the ILP. • New students’ ILPs are created automatically. • As students change schools, their ILPs are automatically transferred with them and made available in their new school’s reporting.

  3. ILP Homepage The ILP Homepage is the central point from which students can access all of the features and functions available in the ILP. Schools can send messages to students. Schools can also add links to related online career, education, and community resources. The My Documents section of the ILP allows students to store files such as essays and presentations, letters of reference, and scanned artwork.

  4. Career Matchmaker Results The ILP is fully integrated with the Career Cruising career guidance system. Students can save their results from the Career Matchmaker interest inventory. Students are asked about their likes and dislikes in a variety of areas, such as working with children, being interested in law, working outdoors. Students receive a list of 40 career suggestions ranked in order of suitability.

  5. Careers & Schools that Interest Me Students can bookmark individual careers and colleges that they are interested in and record their thoughts about each. Career and college names link directly to detailed profiles so students can access information quickly and easily.

  6. Career Cluster Interests Kentucky’s 14 Career Clusters have been integrated in a variety of ways. Here students can indicate which clusters are of particular interest to them and why. Clicking on the name of a cluster takes students to a page with a brief description of that cluster as well as links to related career profiles.

  7. Career Planning Activities Students can document the career planning and development activities in which they have participated, including job shadowing, attending career or college fairs, internships and co-op placements. The list of available activities has been customized for Kentucky. It is also tailored for middle school and high school students.

  8. Extracurricular Activities In the Organizations & Activities section, students can detail the structured extracurricular activities in which they participate. The Hobbies & Interests section allows students to record the informal or independent activities that they enjoy.

  9. Community Service Learning Students can document their community service learning experiences, including the number of hours they have completed and the name of their reference or supervisor. Related files, such as a letter of reference or timesheet, can be uploaded and linked to particular records. Students can also enter their work experience in the same fashion.

  10. Education Plan The Education Plan allows students to record the high school courses they have taken, are taking now, or plan to take in the future. Schools can use this section to help students create a course schedule that meets their career and educational goals. Data from the Education Plan can also be used to forecast course demand. School courses are linked to Kentucky’s universal course codes to allow reporting at the school, district, and state level.

  11. Learning Services The Learning Services section of the ILP allows students to record details about learning options or programs that they participate in, both inside and outside of school. This could include Gifted and Talented programs, limited English proficiency options, private tutoring, and other services.

  12. Resume Builder The ILP also includes a Resume Builder, which takes information students have already entered and helps them create a customized resume. Students can select a variety of styles and can select the order in which the sections appear, allowing them to create chronological, functional or combined format resumes. The resume can be printed from a web browser or exported as a Word, text, or html file.

  13. ILP Completion Standards ILP Completion Standards clearly define the objectives and expectations for students. With the ILP Completion Status Bar, students can view requirements and track their progress towards meeting those specific objectives. Completion Standards help ensure that students keep their ILPs up to date. Each year students must review and revise the required sections of their ILP and reflect on the changes they have made to achieve completion. ILP Completion Standards are set on a grade by grade basis. The ILP is a progressive experience for students as they build their plan over time.

  14. School ILP Administration Tool The School ILP Administration Tool helps teachers, counselors, and administrators implement and manage the ILP at their school: • Retrieve student ILP usernames and passwords. • View individual students’ ILPs. • Create and manage advisor accounts to ensure that staff have access to the features and information that they need. • Monitor ILP Completion Status both individually and at the aggregate level. • Generate a wide variety of customizable reports for every data element included in the ILP. • Customize Career Cruising and the ILP Tool. • Send messages to students and add links to the ILP Homepage.

  15. School ILP Administration Tool Integration with Kentucky’s student information system takes the burden of student information management off of individual schools. Students are added, transferred, and promoted automatically.

  16. The Student List • The Student List provides access to a number of options: • Retrieve student usernames and passwords • View student ILPs or resumes • View or add to students’ Advisement Log • Record students’ Annual ILP Review • View detailed completion status reports • Create and view Parent accounts, comments, and review status • Send messages to individual students Export the Student List to distribute usernames and passwords, to create checklists, or other purposes for which you might need the list of student ILPs.

  17. Advisor Profiles Individual advisor profiles allow users access to the tools and data they need. Four security levels ensure that students’ personal information is protected. Students can be assigned to advisors and teachers to provide quick and easy access to their students’ data.

  18. Graduation Requirements The Education Plan enables students to view Graduation Requirements as they plan their course selections. The Graduation Requirements feature allows schools to customize the requirements beyond the state mandated minimums. Multiple diploma options can be implemented for students to view all available graduation plans.

  19. ILP Completion Reports Track overall student achievement through a variety of ILP Completion Standards Reports. Quickly and easily monitor students’ progress at a glance and view detailed breakdowns. Identify students who are not meeting expectations to determine what help is needed.

  20. ILP Reports The system includes a robust real-time reporting package to analyze all data elements collected in the ILP. Reports can be customized to report on particular groups of students. The archiving function allows school administrators to track trends over time.

  21. Resources & Support Materials • A variety of support documents help schools implement the ILP in the way that works best for them: • User’s Guides for Career Cruising, the ILP, and the School ILP Administration Tool. • Classroom Activities and Independent Research Projects. • Implementation Suggestions • Documents to help introduce parents to the ILP and Career Cruising. • Comprehensive online Help files provide instant access to easy to follow directions. Career Cruising provides phone and email support, as well as proactive client service to ensure successful implementations.
