  1. Warm Up: • Pick up Book Club folder • Get out book and journal • Turn and talk: “What is day light savings time?” Welcome to ESL, 3/12/11

  2. Today, 3/12, I can… • Know: Analyze the next chapters of my class novel. • Do: Complete the assigned pages in my student journal and my reading from my reading plan. • Agenda: • Warm up/share out: 5 minutes • Review task: 5 minutes • Journal work time: 40 minutes I can statement/agenda

Your task • Complete the reading listed on your reading plan for yesterday and today • Complete the packet pages that match the reading you’ve complete • Example: If I finish reading chapters 1-3, I should finish the pages in my journal that discuss chapters 1-3 • After you’ve completed the work independently: • Share your work with your group • What answers are the same, which are different? Why?

  4. Please grab your independent reading book, blank quick notes, and a pen or pencil • Be ready to move to your spelling room in 5 minutes • Spelling Mondays Monday, March 12

  9. Evidence is defined as “evidence is what is advanced to support a claim.” Evidence is: • 1. Is intentional and purposeful • 2. related directly to the claim • 3. Can be understood by someone who has not read the book • Three Principles of Good Evidence: • 1. Relevant (relates directly to your claim) • 2. Verifiable (you can find it in the book) • 3. Representative (represents the book/theme as a whole) Good evidence!

  10. Silent read in independent reading book • In your writers notebook: • 1 sentence: The theme of my reading book is… • 1-2 sentences: evidence that show the theme • A direct quote • A brief (1 sentence) explanation Your task/exit slip
