  2. Tough Choices or Tough Times “America must ensure that 95% of students are ready for two year or four year college by age 16 in order that the American economy remain competitive” Source: The 2007 National Center on Education and Economy

  3. What is Dual Enrollment? A process by which high school students take courses from a state public or private postsecondary institution while still enrolled as a high school student and receive Dual Academic Credit or Dual Technical Credit both at the high school and at the postsecondary institution.

  4. What is Dual Academic Credit? A process by which high school students take courses from a state public or private postsecondary institution while still enrolled as a high school student and receive college credit and high school credit simultaneously for approved academic courses.

  5. What is Dual Technical Credit? A process by which high school students take courses from a state public or private postsecondary institution while still enrolled as a high school student and receive college credit and high school credit simultaneously for approved career technical courses.

  6. What is Move on When Ready? Permits high school Juniors and Seniors in Georgia to leave assigned high school and attend postsecondary institution full-time to earn course credit that will apply towards high school graduation and college.

  7. What are the benefits of Dual Enrollment? • Better prepared workforce in Georgia. • Career development connections • Expanded course offerings • Increased high school completion • Job skills acquisition and increased wages • Less Remediation • Self confidence and motivation

How do you implement Dual Enrollment ? • Meet with Superintendent in Service Area. • Determine Program Offerings. • Develop marketing plan for high schools, students and parents. • Develop a solution list to overcome objections such as funding. • Create Memorandum of Understanding. • Develop Dual Enrollment Agreement.

  9. Challenge Response • MOU’s • It is the right thing to do for students. • Less expensive to pay for a D.E. student than a high school drop out. • Technical College pays for the instructor. • Funding
