Data Team Membership Preparing Students to Compete in a Global Society 2010 - 2011 All staff members at Burr Elementary are part of data meetings Data meetings are monthly (7:50 a.m. – 8:50 a.m.) focusing on three core academic areas (reading, writing and mathematics) Teachers used professional development hours on our Tier II Goals in reading, writing and mathematics

Building Stats Preparing Students to Compete in a Global Society 2010-2011 Number of Students: 494 (Including 26 ECSE Student) Number of Staff: 60 staff members Special Education: 34 students (7%) Less Than Full Year: 49 students (10%) Ethnicity: 449 white, 10 African American (2%), 11 Hispanic (2%), 12 Asian (2%) and 7 Multi-racial (1%) ELL Students: 29 students + 15 ELL kdg students(9%)

Action Plan, Tier II & Smart Goals Preparing Students to Compete in a Global Society 2010-2011 We follow the district template and focus on the three core areas of reading, writing and mathematics. Our documents are complete with detailed descriptions for supporting academic achievement. Burr teaching teams utilize a 90/80/90 model which focuses on 90% proficiency in reading, 80% proficiency in writing and 90% proficiency in mathematics for the 2011 - 2012 school year.

  10. Strategies Preparing Students to Compete in a Global Society 2010-2011 Strategies are research based instructional practices that improve student achievement. Strategies are specific and measurable. Strategies are action oriented. They are what the vertical, grade level teams and teachers will do to increase student achievement. Building professional development is focused on strategies and interventions that target specific students below level.

Progress Monitoring Preparing Students to Compete in a Global Society 2010-2011 Reading Progress is monitored quarterly through assessment with DIBELs, Rigby and/or Fountas and Pinnell for students not at benchmark. Writing Progress is monitored three times a year through assessment for knowledge and experience. We are adding school-wide assessments for opinion/persuasive, and informational writing to align with the new core standards. Mathematics is monitored three times per year with a pre, mid year and post test by using the district mathematics assessment.

  12. Assessment Data Preparing Students to Compete in a Global Society 2010-2011 Building and classroom data includes both formative and summative assessments. Teachers and administrators dig deeper to analyze student data (Economically Disadvantaged data, MEAP data) Multiple assessments are used in the building and in the classroom to determine student performance.

Develop instruction based on where students are in relation to the instructional goal. Monitor individual students growth and change instruction as needed to meet the instructional goal. Assess student’s mastery of instructional goal. Repeat the data driven instruction cycle…….

Cues, Questions, and Advance Organizers Note: We also use research other strategies based strategies: Houghton Mifflin Reading Series, 6+1 Writing by Ruth Culham, Reading Deeper by Kelly Gallagher, Comprehensive Framework, to name a few.
