  3. Diction • Meaning: “the expression of the meaning in words” • Proper & appropriate to the plot, characters, and end of the tragedy • The expression of feeling in words

  4. Stylistic elements of tragedy • Clear • Great usage of proper words • Words are appropriate to the character • Writing is metaphorical (in high level) • Uses figures of speech

  5. Art of Delivery Usage of: • Commands& statements • Prayers • Threats • Questions & answers

  7. Musical element of the chorus • Regarded as one of the actors - Helps unite the plot

  8. Little to the subject • Sung as mere interludes • Introducing choral interlude - not different from transferring a speech

  10. Least connected to Literature • Recognizes the emotional attraction • Forms a unity in two ways • Signifying one thing • Consisting of several parts linked together

  11. Depends more on the machinist than the poet • Poets that relied heavily on Spectacle were shallow and their writing was weak

  13. End of the tragedy •  Has generated considerable debate

  14. Meaning- “purging”- medical metaphor •    “Aesthetic Pleasure” is proper to tragedy

  15. Tragedy creates pity and fear in order to help you get rid of these feelings in excess
