General Education Requirements Physical Fitness and Nutrition [2 courses; 2-4 units] One of the following courses is required: CourseTitle Units PED 100 Fitness through Movement 1 PED 300 Optimal Health 2 FCS 315 Personal, Family, and Community Health 3 Physical Education courses must have both activity and lecture components that are measureable. It is not enough to know about the subject and not practice it. Fitness through Movement – 80% physical activity, 20% lecture Optimal Health – 100% lecture in class (excluding physical testing days), physical activity outside of class time

  10. Most Controversial Aspect of the Course BODY COMPOSITION!How athletic departments and teams handle it. Labels, is there a more loaded word than “obese?” How should body comp factor into class requirements PED 100 informational PED 300 Fitness Assessment - 5% est. BF, 15% cardio Most students change their eating habits, a few don’t buy into exercising

What I like the most about the course Opportunities to discuss: Body image – what is possible, what isn’t Media - message of dissatisfaction God vs. Culture – Dare to be a Daniella Alcohol – Health, legacy, 21, Vietnam, cig Stewardship – Blood drives, labor Natural Selection - Tohono O’odham and Pima Indian Tribes

  12. Desert Survival Could you survive in a desert? Tohono O’odham and Pima Indian Tribes survived for centuries in the deserts of the southwest. 50 years ago the had no word for diabetes and their was no obesity.

Directions for Course Improvements Longitudinal Studies Class more closely linked to cafeteria Counter cultural strength Stewardship (Guilt, Gratefulness) “If anyone has material possessions and sees his brother in need but has no pity on him, how can the love of God be in him?
