  1. Issue 1 It can be argued that the complexity problem associated with the current IP control plane has arisen because of ever evolving network service requirements. How can a clean slate design of network control accommodate future requirements differently and avoid being legacy itself in a few years?

  2. Issue 2 Some people consider network control and management an ad hoc, experimental problem because the solutions seem to be always in the form of custom software tools. Do you think that the recent new approaches to network control and management are elevating the scientific stature of this field? What hard science questions do you anticipate in network control and management?

  3. Issue 3 Network configuration management is essentially a software engineering (SW) problem. There are two approaches: top down – automatic code generation based on high level specs, and bottom up – development of better languages. The bottom up approach seems to have more success in the general field of SW. Do you think this is also true in network configuration management?
