  1. RESCUE SWIMMER INSTRUCTOR COURSE (RSI)CIN: Q-050-0601 PURPOSE: To provide qualified Rescue Swimmers knowledge and skills necessary to instruct Aviation and Surface Rescue Swimmer trainees in the proper procedures and techniques to rescue waterborne survivors.

  2. Course Length: 21 DaysScope: • Student instructors receive training in Rescue Swimmer Schools Training Program curricula with emphasis on the Instructional Management Plan (IMP) and Annexes. Prepares the student instructor to recognized the signs of stress and learning difficulties and identify their causes. The student instructor will become certified in CPR for the professional rescuer, certified in lifeguarding, and receive instructor ratings in Standard First Aid and Adult CPR. Student instuctors will also undergo rigorous physical training which consists of calisthenics, timed swims, and group-paced runs.

  3. Prerequisites: • Complete Group Paced Instructor Course and earn a 9502 NEC. • Qualified Rescue Swimmer, NECs 7815, 8215, or 0170. • Command screened and High Risk Instructor screened. • 3.8 or better evaluations (old eval system) or 3.0 or better evaluations (new eval system) for the past three years. • No civilian convictions other than minor traffic violations. continued

  4. Prerequisites: continued • Paygrade, E-5 to E-9. • Documentation of psychological screening. • Aviation Rescue Swimmers must possess a current SAR Swimmer Evaluation. • Current medical/physical screening. • meet minimum body fat standards per OPNAVINST 6110.1 series. • Pass RSI physical Readiness in-test.

  5. RSI Physical Readiness In-Test • The following must be completed before enrollment: • * Push-ups; 42 minimum within 2 minutes. • * Sit-ups; 50 minimum within 2 minutes. • * 1.5 mile run; 12 minutes maximum. • * 400 meter swim; 11 minutes maximum.

  7. Rescue Swimmer Instructor Course • This course is designated as High Risk Training by CNET. • Training and enrollment is voluntary. • Student may terminate training at any time.

  8. Student Instructors must complete the following before graduating RSI: • Dry land conditioning levels One, Two and Three. PT three times weekly with a 25 to 30 minute group paced runs. • 800 meter swim within 20 minutes. • 1500 meter swim within 35 minutes. • 400 meter buddy tow within 16 minutes. • 800 meter buddy tow within 35 minutes.

  9. Student Instructors must complete the following before graduating RSI: • Complete American Red Cross Instructor Candidate Course. • Complete American Red Cross Standard First Aid and Adult CPR Instructor Course. • Complete American Red Cross Lifeguard course.

  10. Rescue Swimmer Instructors, Go on to teach future Rescue Swimmers for the fleet in the following CNO approved training sites through out the United States. These sites are located at , FTC San Diego (Surface CAT I and CAT II), HC-3 North Island (CAT II), HELWINGSLANT Jacksonville (Surface CAT I and CAT II) and NASC Pensacola (Aviation CAT I).
