  2. Chapter 7 • Holden begins to feel lonesome • Goes to visit Ackley to take his mind off of things

  3. Chapter 7 • Holden continues to struggle with the idea of Stradlater and Jane • Stradlater gave the time to girls • You can tell Holden is confused about this subject, even from his double date with Stradlater

  4. Chapter 7 • Holden decides to leave • Gives Ackley a phony handshake • Packs his belongings and this makes him depressed (Thinking about the new ice skates from his mother.) • Puts on the red hunting cap

  5. Chapter 8 • “Women kill me.” • Page 54 • See his childish side come out • Does not truly understand them

  6. Chapter 8 • Holden started shooting the crap • Phoniness • Creates an entire story about himself, even down to the name “Rudolph Schmidt”

  7. Chapter 8 • Why do you think he makes up the stories to Mrs. Morrow? • Draw attention away from him • Not clear

  8. Chapter 9 • Holden’s behavior is becoming stranger • Holden is aroused by the number of Faith Cavendish and he even goes down to the night club to pick up older women • The lies Holden tells are a sign of immaturity

  9. Chapter 9 • How does Holden feel about sex? • People only should have it when they care deeply for someone and the people in the hotel are perverts • Appropriate sex vs. casual

  10. Chapter 10 • Lavender Room, the Edmont’s Nightclub

  11. Chapter 10 • Phoebe = little sister • Smart • Writes many stories • She is not a phony like Allie • She is too emotional sometimes

  12. Chapter 10 • Holden talks to 3 older women, they begin to laugh at him further adding to his despair
