  1. Key competencies Relating to others: Throughout this movement unit students will be working alone and with other students. They will be actively listening to other students ideas, gaining other peoples perspective as well as sharing their own ideas. Thinking: By coming up with their own movement phrases students will be learning to think creatively and crfitically about their own movements. Managing self: Within this unit students will be encouraged to give everything a try and set goals which they can meet. Health & Physical Education Unit Plan for Year/s Title: I like to move it! Excellence: They will learn about setting standards which they will meet and perfect. Innovation, inquiry, and curiosity: They will learn about their own physical movement as well as show innovation by coming up with their own moves. Community and participation: As an idividual working as part of a community of learners students will be learning to participate with others through listening, and sharing of ideas. Student Needs: • Working in groups • Respecting others personal space • Talking turns • Problem solving • HPE Key Area(s) of Learning • Physical Activity • Through the engagement of play, games, and expressive movement students will be learning about movement, and gain an understanding that movement is an integral part to human expression and that it can contribute to people’s pleasure and enhance their lives. • They will learn to understand appreciate and move their bodies, relate positively to others, and demonstrate constructive attitudes and values. • Relationships with other people • To make connections and establish positive relationships to ensure the safety of everyone in group situations Unit Aim: Students will be provided with opportunities to think creatively and critically, and to relate with others using the medium of movement education. HPE Underlying Concepts Attitudes and Values: Students will develop positive attitudes towards movement concepts. They will acknowledge the ideas of others while trying out their own. Health promotion: Students will develop and maintain a supportive physical and emotional environment while working alone and as part of a team. Overview of Unit Unit Learning Intentions We are learning to… 1A2, 1B1&3, 1B2&4 Come up with, listen to and share ideas about movement in order to solve a problem Teaching Learning Activities (What activities to use to enhance learning) In order to be able to achieve criteria, students will: Be placed in groups of 4, they will have to come up with movement ideas to be able to get from point A to point B by keeping all team members inside no more than two hula hoops at the same time. See Appendix A for detailed instructions. Success Criteria (What shapes your lesson intentions) We will know we have learned this when: We have solved a problem as a group by coming up with, listening to and sharing ideas. We are learning to... 1A2, 1B1&3, 1B2&4 Develop our movement skills by communicating and working with others to solve a problem We will know we have learned this when: We actively use communication within a group to solve a movement based problem our group has. In order to be able to achieve criteria, students will: Warm up: Follow the leader skipping. Students split into two groups and form single file lines. The first in line is the leader and all must skip the same way the leader does. When the teacher calls change, the leader moves to the back of the line and the student at the front of the line becomes the new leader. Be split into two groups, who are tangled together holding each others’ hands and will have to untangle themselves without letting go of each other by communicating and moving in different ways .
