  1. Governor MarkHow to develop the Leadership and Management of your school through Governor Mark accreditation Karen Frost – Vice Chair. Herefordshire Association of Governors. Chair of Governors. John Kyrle High School. February 2012. http://glmpartnership.org/governor_mark.html

  2. What is Governor Mark? National Award – Quality Mark. A kite mark which provides external evaluation of the quality of governance in a school. Accredited by GLM – which stands for Governance, Leadership and Management. This quality mark is supported by the DFE and was developed by a group of expert governors from the National Governors Association. Because there were many awards available for schools but until 2009 there was nothing for governing bodies. http://glmpartnership.org/governor_mark.html

  3. A recognised national award. • Opportunity to evaluate what you do as a governing body against a recognised set of criteria of outstanding governance. • Or, if you do not want to go through the assessment then you can do a self assessment against the full set of criteria and not make an application. • http://glmpartnership.org/governor_mark.html What can it give you?

  4. What does it entail? Preparing the evidence – 8 sets of criteria. 1 – 3 are self evaluation. 4 – 8 hard evidence. 3 Impact Areas – 1000 words. Make an application. Full assessment by a GLM assessor including a visit to your school. Cost – Routeway 1 - £645 Routeway 2 - £1050.

  5. Why would you do it? • To help you evaluate your governance work against a set of agreed national standards. This applies regardless of whether you decide to make an application or not. • It gives you a quality mark that says the governance, leadership and management of your school is of a very high standard. • Ofsted love it! • http://glmpartnership.org/governor_mark.html

  6. JKHS Experience Why we applied? What it was like to go through the accreditation? What we learnt and changed? Would we do it again? We are happy to help any other school wishing to apply.
