  2. Point of view • The perspective from which the story is told. • In another country, its told in first person. • The narrator is saying I all the time so that its how we know its in first person.

First Person Point Of View • The definition of first person is a point where the narrator uses I or we in the story you are reading. • The narrator in the story may or may not be reliable. • The reader only gets one perspective if its first person. • An example of first person being used in this story is when the narrator says, “We were in the hospital every afternoon.” • Examples of other stories told in first person is: Alicia Erian’s novel Towelhead, Elie Wiesel book “The Night.”

Third person • The definition of third person is a form of story telling in which the narrator in the story relates the action in third person. • The narrator uses he or she in the story. • The third person can be limited or it can be omniscient. • An example is Jane Austen’s novel pride and prejudice. • An example of third person used in the story is when the narrator says, “He looked down at the machine and jerked his little hand out from between the straps and slapped it against his thigh.

Analyzed questions • Did you like this story why or why not? • Infer: looking at the pictures in the story what do you think is happening? • Apply: do you think this story really tells what happen in WWI? • Literary check: Is there any examples of irony in this story, if so what type? • Recall: what is your reaction to the death of major’s wife? • The author says they go to the hospital, what does the hospital represent?

  6. Questions • What are two settings mentioned in the story? • What's the plot of the story? • What war was the narrator in? • What do you think was the suspense of the story? Why? • Where you surprise the way the story ended? Yes or no and why?
