  1. Welcome from theAcademic Advising Center! Information for Spring 2015 Online Registration

  2. Registration Preparation 101 Registration Week is November 10-14th This is the start of Registration. You can make changes to your schedule through the drop/add period in January. Objectives for this session: Provide you with the tools and information to make your registration experience a successful and smooth one!

  3. STEP 1: Preparing for Registration • Practice Logging-in to HomerConnect • Check to see if you have any holds • Faculty advisor meeting in October • Registration pin number (if needed). • School of H & S • RLS and Preprofessional • Time Ticket

  4. HomerConnect • Make sure you know how to log-in to HomerConnect! • Know your user name and Homer Connect Pin – different than your NetPass. • If your login fails 3 times, you will be locked out of HomerConnectand you must contact the Registrar to get reset.

  5. Registration Holds • To check to see if there are holds on your account, login to HomerConnect. • Holds must be released by the office that originally placed the hold. • Financial related hold: Contact Student Financial Services to resolve the issue. • Dean specific holds: See the appropriate Dean’s office. • Health Immunization hold: Contact Hammond Health Center.

  6. Faculty Advising • Make an appointment to meet with your faculty advisor at least 2 weeks before registration to discuss course options. Discuss back-up options!! • H & S students are required to meet with your faculty advisor. You will need to obtain a registration PIN from their faculty advisor. You MUST have this to register. • Recreation and Leisure Studies and PreProfessional Program Students in School of HSHP also are required to meet with your faculty advisor.

  7. Academic Advising Center • Appointments available until Friday, November 7. • Registration week – drop in assistance only.

  8. Time Ticket • An email message will be sent approximately two weeks prior to registration to alert you of when you are eligible to register. • You can register for classes beginning with your assigned time (Time Ticket). • If you forget your scheduled time, you can also check your Time Ticket on HomerConnect.

  9. Step 2: Finding out which courses you need to take. • Program Sheets/Worksheets from your department • Other Resources Linked from Academic Advising Center Web Site: www.ithaca.edu/advising • Online Course Catalog 2014-2015 • ICC Grids/ICC Website • Degree Evaluation

  10. Make a List of Courses • Use HomerConnect to find courses offered in Spring 2015. Use Advanced Search and write down: • CRN • Course title • Course number • After reviewing what you need to take and what classes are being offered, begin mapping out a tentative schedule. • Use weekly planning grids(available on the Registration tips page of the Advising Center site – www.ithaca.edu/advising/registration) • Choose more courses than you need! Have a backup plan if you don’t get the course you want.

  11. Reminders! • Run a Degree Evaluation in HomerConnect. • Use the degree evaluation to identify courses that you need to complete. Not Met • Use the online catalog for course descriptions or link from Advanced Search in HomerConnect. • Is a course only offered in the Fall? in the Spring? • Is there a prerequisite for a course you want?

  12. Step 3: Time to Register • When your time ticket opens you are now prepared to register. • Log into HomerConnect. • Click on Student, Financial Aid and Res Life • Click on Registration • Click on Add/Drop Classes

Registration Error Messages • Reasons for error messages: • The course is restricted to a class level – sophomore or junior, etc. • You don’t have the prerequisite for the course. • You have picked the wrong lab or drill section to go with the lecture. • The course is restricted to majors. • The course is full and there are not openings.

  16. Online Course Override Form can be used to address some error messages. Log in with NetPass. Remember to Log Out.

  17. Course Overrides • The form becomes available in HomerConnect at the same time as your time-ticket for registration. It is linked from the Add/Drop page. • You will receive an email confirmation when you have submitted the form successfully. • When a decision has been made (yes, on hold, no) you will also receive an email notification. • The Override Approval does not register you for the course. You must still register manually on HomerConnect. Do this as soon as approved.

  18. After Registration • You CAN change your schedule. Students will be dropping and adding classes – openings will appear. Check HomerConnect frequently. • Run your degree evaluation againto see how your Spring courses fulfill requirements. • Check email for course override approvals and drop and add courses accordingly. • Meet with your faculty advisor or an advisor in the Academic Advising Center if you still have questions.

Final Reminders! • Appointments with AAC advisors available until November 7. • Drop-in help ONLY at the AAC is availableNovember 10-14. • Use Registration Tips on the Academic Advising Web site. • Preparation will pay off during registration week. • Don’t panic. Relax and take advantage of the help that is available to you. You WILL have a course schedule for Spring.
