Ocean Transportation Service • Arranges all ocean shipping for WFP • Pre-shipment planning determines the most suitable transport contract • Contracting done on competitive terms and open negotiations to ensure: timeliness, cost effectiveness, transparency, & equal opportunity • With 30-40 ships on the water at any given time, it enables WFP to divert food aid to emerging crises at short notice

Logistics Service • Provides logistics capabilityfor WFP to receive, care for and deliver food aid • Supports WFP’s operations worldwidein development and relief operations by • planning diverse surface and air transport operations • assisting COs implement logistics operations • Provides capacity for preparedness and responsiveness through ALITE • Logistics contingency planning

  4. Insurance and Legal Branch • Arranges appropriate insurance cover, primarily for transport operations but also including other WFP liabilities • Manages WFP’s self-insurance scheme • Organises reconditioning and salvage • Pursues recovery claims • Provides general insurance and legal advice within WFP • Monitors loss statistics, reporting post-delivery losses to the Executive Board

  5. Freight Analysis & Support Branch • Manages, monitors and reports on LTSH budgets and expenditures • Analyses operational performance relating to: freight cost, tonnages, traffic forecasts, cost savings • Processes freight (charter, liner and overland) invoices for payments • Manages corporate transport data/statistics • Assists with transport policies and strategies
