Key Concept #2 • There are four “stages” of Arts Integration: • Thinking • Doing • Talking • Writing
Key Concept #3 • At each stage in arts integration, teachers use strategies to encourage student engagement in the creative process, making connections, developing oral language and participating in academic discourse.
The Creative Process Stage 1: Thinking “Close your eyes and listen as I guide you through a visualization that will serve as the inspiration for the art you are about to create.”
The Creative Process Stage 2: Doing Using the materials at your table, create your tree. Pay attention to the shape, texture, color. Will you use symbols, abstract images, or geometric shapes?
The Creative Process Stage 2: Doing • “Say Something” • Non-judgmental language • Validate the creative impulse • Be open to the results • Ask reflective questions
The Creative Process Stage 3: Talking Using open ended questions and prompts allows students to think critically about the artistic choices they made and to critique the artwork of their peers.
