Biography • Van Allsburg was born in Grand Rapids, Michigan on June 18, 1949. • He lives now in Providence, Rhode Island with his family. • His inspiration was one of the houses Chris lived in, the street looked like the cover of his first books The Polar Express. • His other occupations were a sculptor/artist and a teacher.

  3. Interesting Facts • Chris paternal grandfather, Peter, owned and operated a creamery. • In 1975, after earning his M.F.A (Master Degree in Fine Arts) degree at R.I.S.D, Chris set up a sculptor studio in Providence, Rhode Island. • Chris first exhibited his first sculpture in N.Y.C. in 1977 at the Alan Stone Gallery.
