  3. What is Edmodo? • Free social network for teachers, students, schools and districts • Provides an engaging platform for blended learning and safe, productive social networking • Safe and easy way to: • Connect • Exchange ideas • Share content • Access homework, grades and school notices.

Security • Closed environment • No private information required from students • Students join classes by the invitation of their teacher only • Students cannot directly message one another • All communications are archived • Teacher has full management control • Sub domains allow district administrators greater control

  6. Teachers Account Update your Account Settings Create a Group Select create on groups menu Complete group info Distribute codes to group members • Upload Photo • Select your school • Customize email/text notification • Choose your privacy settings

  7. For the Classroom Student Sign-up Manage Groups Create sub-groups within groups View grades, reset passwords and set students to “read only” Access Parent Codes, award badges and remove members • Student must have group registration code • Students are not required to give email address

Innovative Classroom Tips: • Playground- An open forum for students to communicate with set guidelines and boundaries • In the News- Create a current event group that allows students to post articles and blogs that are relevant to classroom curriculum • Journal Entries- post classroom activities/material and create a folder where student’s can write response journals • Announcements- highlight birthdays, college acceptance, sporting events, and other student milestones

  15. Limitations iPad • Needs iOS 6 (if older, must update) • Teachers cannot create quizzes using the App • Can view and reply to community posts but cannot start new posts • Cannot edit/delete posts • Badges are not available • Parents are not able to use it at this time

  16. Everyone Join the Class! • Go to the Edmodo Website • Create an account • YOU ARE A STUDENT • Class code: qk7a64 • Start Learning! One member will be at each table for assistance!

  17. First Steps for Getting Started • Complete your profile • Create a group and invite students • Post class materials and initial discussion questions • Join a subject or content community to make connections and access material for the classroom

  18. Remember… • If you don’t use it.. You lose it! • Setting Edmodo up as a classroom platform can be very effective BUT you as a teacher need to reinforce its use with the students • Students will see this as a gimmick and not take it seriously • Take the time to set up your class with the students • Consistent Use!
